Recently, however, a former UFC Heavyweight champion has announced their entry into the sport once ruled by Mike Tyson.
Francis Ngannou signed a contract with the PFL earlier after failed negotiations with the UFC. While he is scheduled to make his debut in 2024, he has quite an important bout before it. Foraying into the world of professional boxing, the former UFC champ’s debut happens to be against the current WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. However, as the date of the fight draws near, Ngannou has a significant factor on his side, Mike Tyson.

The former Heavyweight champion Tyson is easily regarded as one of the greatest boxers to ever have graced the ring. ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ has taken to training the Cameroonian mixed martial artist for what could be one of the most important bouts of his life. Although Tyson Fury is a large and menacing opponent, the MMA fighter has been known for packing quite the punch. In a recent occurrence, ‘Iron’ Mike declared that ‘The Predator’ Ngannou has a punch that Fury might not be ready for.

The former champion said, “[Francis Ngannou] punches like God knows who, man. He’s an athlete, he moves quicker, works with his speed, and listen man, he only has to land one or two. Tyson’s never been in the ring with somebody that can punch this hard“.Following the bold statement, Tyson shared a video on his YouTube channel. A portion of the video has been circulating on Instagram as well. The montage, which shows some exciting footage from Mike Tyson’s training session with Francis Ngannou, has sent the world into a frenzy with more rallying in support of the MMA fighter.

Fury’s place as the champion is arguably uncontested. This led to the general apprehension behind ‘The Predator’s decision to box him. However, the clip seems to be turning the tides in favor of the ex-UFC champ as people have now begun rallying for a huge upset via Ngannou. One fan said: “Ngannou growing on me, I was a hater at first.” More fans chimed in with praise at the current PFL fighter’s form: “As if he wasnt already scary as f**k holy s**t“; “s**t, he’s heavyweight killer“.
One fan was all respect for Ngannou: “Francis looking good I’m not gonna lie , win or lose , respect for trying new things fr“. The clip instilled faith in one fan who said: “Ngannou can really win“. The cinematic appeal of the clip was not lost on some fans. One drew a parallel between the clip and the movie ‘Creed’ starring Michael B. Jordan, a spinoff of the famous ‘Rocky’ series. The movie known for its epic training montages inspired the comment: “Looking like a scene from creed“. Another fan echoed the sentiments of all fight fans when they said, “this is getting me so hyped haha“.

More fans introduced the relevance of boxing in Ngannou’s future and his past. One comment read, “Apart from Tyson fight, imagine Ngannou can box at MMA rip other fighters.” While one reminiscent fan remarked, “Y’all forget Francis was training for boxing before the ufc picked him up.” The video ends with ‘Iron Mike’s words echoing as he signs off, “Wanna be a heavyweight champ? This is what heavyweight champs do.”
