The first time Nate Diaz fought Jorge Masvidal ended in disaster for the Stockton native. Fighting the fellow fan-favorite ‘Gamebred’ at UFC 244 five years ago, Diaz suffered a serious gash above his eye, forcing the ring doctor to stop the fight at the end of the third round. After the unsatisfying end to their original clash, the rematch finally happened after five long years. This time around, however, the fight went the distance and Diaz successfully avenged his BMF title bout loss to the Cuban-American. Among the first to congratulate Diaz was boxing superstar Ryan Garcia, who also had an unusual request for the victorious fighter.
Garcia, who has cordial relations with the former UFC star, enjoyed Diaz’s majority decision victory over Masvidal at the end of the stipulated ten rounds. Garcia was present ringside at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California to watch Diaz come back from behind after struggling for the initial rounds to win the fight on two judges’ scorecards, with one scoring it a draw.
After the fight, Diaz made a post on his official Instagram handle, celebrating the victory. Interestingly, Garcia took to the comments section of the post and asked the Stockton native to DM him and shout out his aunt, who adores Diaz, as it would mean a lot to her. “Hey Nate I’m your biggest fan. Please hit me back on my DMS. Would literally make my aunts night. Btw she has a huge crush on you,” Garcia wrote via his official Instagram handle.

Ryan Garcia’s brother Sean Garcia, too, was fighting on the card. The younger Garcia unfortunately suffered a sixth-round knockout loss at the hands of Amado Vargas. ‘King Ryan’ didn’t seem much impressed by his brother’s performance as he took to X to write, “Skipped rehab for this s**t.”

Garcia’s visit to the card was not without any controversy. The boxer, who has been in somewhat of a spiral since the Devin Haney bout earlier this year, was reportedly escorted out of the venue by security. However, the 25-year-old claimed that he wasn’t kicked out but left of his own accord. And while his brother fared poorly in his boxing match last night, Ryan’s biggest-ever win has been overturned to be a no-contest.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney result overturned by NYSAC
Boxing journalist Dan Rafael was the first to report that Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney has been overturned to a no-contest by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) because of a failed drug test. Garcia had shot to stardom after the wildly entertaining and action-packed fight, which included a heated build-up and dramatic conclusion.
However, it was revealed days after the bout that ‘King Ryan’ had failed a drug test taken just before the fight. He had tested positive for Ostarine and another banned substance. The fighter has maintained his innocence since but was left with few options after the B-sample also tested positive.

This, of course, means that Haney’s undefeated record has been restored and the bout has been struck from Garcia’s record. In addition, Garcia and his team have settled for a one-year ban with the NYSAC, not to mention the reputational loss he has taken and the hefty fine imposed on him.
