It seems the final nail in the coffin for the boxing fight between Tommy Fury and former UFC fighter Darren Till has finally been hit. Originally scheduled for January 18, Tommy Fury has now been replaced by Anthony Taylor for the fight that had everyone excited. But why did Fury pull out? Well, that’s because the younger brother of former world champion Tyson Fury took his rival’s threats too seriously and decided to cancel the fight between the two.

It all started at the press conference to promote the event, held in November. At the time, Till threatened to use his skills as an MMA fighter if boxing didn’t work for him during the fight. He said that he would be using his kicks to hit Fury’s head, and these threats of illegal strikes definitely did not sit well with the boxer. Through his Instagram story, Tommy Fury made public his decision not to face Darren Till again on January 18.

According to the British boxer, the possibility that the former UFC fighter would break the rules in the dispute was responsible for his desire to cancel the fight. He wrote, “I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I am now not fighting Darren Till on Jan. 18, 2025. For the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is losing the fight, he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics.”

Promoted by the company ‘Misfits Boxing’, this was a mega-event and many fans had already bought tickets. However, with Tommy Fury pulling out, they had to find a last-minute replacement in Anthony Taylor to create the main event fight of the much-awaited night. However, it seems like fans definitely aren’t big fans of the decision. In fact, they were quick to let their thoughts be known by taking to social media.

After Tommy Fury’s pullout, Darren Till ranted about how he was simply playing mind games and that he was never going to rely on MMA moves, since he could take on the fighter purely through his boxing skills. However, it is too late now since Anthony Taylor has already been booked to be his replacement fight. But while Till might be disappointed that he is not getting to face Fury, the fans were simply more disappointed by the decision. After all, they bought tickets to see Till vs. Fury. Taking no time, many fans were quick to take to social media to ask Ticketmasters for refunds with tweets such as, “@TicketmasterCS please refund my tickets,” “How do I request a refund, please, via @Ticketmaster for this event?” Nah, I’m good; how do I get a refund on tickets?” and “Yeh, so when is the refund for tickets being offered?”

What’s your perspective on:

Did Tommy Fury make the right call, or did he let Till's mind games get to him?

But while some fans wanted refunds based on the main event of the night, other fans wanted to find out what the rest of the card looked like. However, Misfits Boxing hasn’t announced the rest of the fight card yet. A decision that surely rubbed many the wrong way as they wrote on X, “Announce the full card, you idiots,” “Just give me the whole card,” and “Undercard?”

However, not everyone was left disappointed by the replacement fight. After all, Anthony Taylor too is a fierce fighter who can give real competition to Darren Till. He has earned major credit for himself on the influencer boxing scene in the past years. To make things more competitive, Taylor also has 11 MMA fights to his name, starting his combat sports career out in Bellator. So, he would be able to handle any illegal strikes that Darren Till might rely on. Praising the replacement, many fans soon tweeted in support of the fighter as they wrote,
“Glad to see AT shine as a main event.” and “Finally!! @anthony_foreal 1000% deserved this!”
