Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya do not look like they’ll bury the hatchet anytime soon. With White officially entering the boxing scene with TKO boxing, the flames have been fanned again. Dana White shocked the entire world of combat sports when he signed the deal with Sheikh Turki Alalshikh and entered the realm of squared rings with TKO Boxing. It was the UFC head honcho’s way of trying to save a sport that he thought of as broken. However, White received a bit of backlash, and of course, it was Oscar De La Hoya who stood at the front of the rally. Not too long ago, he admitted that he felt offended when he heard that the reins of boxing were now passed on to White. After all, De La Hoya dedicated more than 2 decades to the sport with Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN. So, how did he retaliate?

On 13 March 2025, the Mexican-American promoter took to Instagram to share his views on White’s newest venture. He promised to give his complete opinion in the upcoming week. The caption to the IG post read, “Next week I’m giving my full opinion on the entry of @danawhite in the boxing space. You’ll have to wait another week to hear this but as always with Clapback there is no holding back!!! “

But what did the former professional boxer have to say? It seemed like De La Hoya was traveling in his plane when he recorded the video. He said, “Yo, what’s up guys? Everybody’s been asking me about my opinion on the new boxing venture that the wife-beater Dana White has started. I cannot wait for Clapback Thursday. It’s gonna be epic. I’m gathering all information.” The rivalry between De La Hoya and White has been going on for ages. Neither promoter takes a step back from dissing the other. Does the Golden Boy Promotions boss know something about TKO Boxing that White wasn’t ready to let out? What is the ‘information’ he is gathering?

White’s entry into the boxing scene is with much fanfare. The frustration with the best fighters in a weight class not fighting each other could be solved with the proposed UFC-like plan White is looking to implement. But he’s already losing fans with another controversial decision regarding his league. Speaking to Dan Rafael, White said, “I am not interested in working with sanctioning bodies. I have no interest whatsoever. Not with the thing that I am working on. I am working on not working with them.”

This means White might be thinking of disregarding the landmark Muhammad Ali Act of 2000 that protects the rights and welfare of professional boxers. The Act is aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness. Still, sanctioning bodies have come under fire for failing to ensure the same. And for an organization like the UFC where fighter pay is the subject of every fortnightly discussion, it’s no surprise their CEO does not want to follow the vastly different ruleset. Does De la Hoya have something on this front?

While De La Hoya engaged in his research, the fighting community took over the comments section of his Instagram post and revealed their thoughts. Needless to say, fight fans were curious about what the former boxer had planned for Dana White. But little did he know that many fans would lash back at him for his words.

Some of the fans felt a gush of excitement as the drama involving De La Hoya and White left the fighting realm in suspense. Lookin good Oscar..” One more fan commented, “Another clap back Thursday the best.” And everyone who stood in support of De La Hoya rallied behind, “Cook him Oscar.”

Meanwhile, many fans pointed out the troubles faced by Golden Boy Promotions. Recently, one of the most celebrated boxers under the promotion, Ryan Garcia, was sued along with the fight promotion for ‘alleged fraudulent inducement, tortious interference and other serious claims’. Weighing in on that, a fan commented, “Can’t be worse than golden boy mma.” Another fan wrote, “Can’t hate when you tried Goldenboy UFC with @chuckliddell and @titoortizig .at least give @danawhite a chance. Who knows you guys might be able to out come the drama and became big business partners.”

But the dismissal was heavy as well. And one of the fans reflected back on the beef between Canelo Alvarez and De La Hoya. Well, Alvarez had sued the promotion for breach of contract and other terms back in 2020. The fan revisited the heat and wrote, “Mann canelo was right bozo hates on everyone wow I stood up for but he’s a hater.” Another fan chimed in and commented, “This bozo is a hater fishnet.”
