The dust seems to be settling on Conor McGregor’s failed lawsuit case and now we have other news regarding the Irishman to grab our attention. Too much is on the plate for ‘The Notorious’ right now, with the fight against Logan Paul in India sponsored by the Ambanis, and maybe a Hollywood stint with a speculated appearance on the TV show Ramble On. McGregor posted a cryptic message about the same writing, “I’m in! #chasheen.”
But let’s get back to boxing. For those who missed the beginning of this saga, McGregor had announced on X that he was in “preliminary agreements” to fight Logan Paul in India. And contrary to what we’ve come to expect from ‘The Notorious’, he did not delete the post – quite the U-turn from his usual post-and-delete behavior! It’s not like, it was an inflammatory post directed at one of his many rivals, but still, it lends credence to the fact that this fight is on. What’s more? He’s reported set to make $250 million for that exhibition bout with the older Paul brother.
However, an ESPN MMA analyst came forward to rain on the Irishman’s parade. He refuted the news of McGregor earning a quarter of a billion dollars for fighting the YouTuber-turned-boxer in the South Asian country. As per Ian Parker, “No one is paying Logan Paul 250M to box anyone. No one is also paying Conor McGregor 250M to box anyone. If they are… then that should be the goal of every combat sports athlete.. find a popular influencer with a huge following and go box them in Saudi or India and make crazy money for 1 fight. Btw.. none of this is happening.”

The saga does not end here because skepticism about the matchup is rife within the fighting community, from AKA coach Javier Mendez discounting Logan Paul’s ability in that match to Chael Sonnen discounting the match itself. What did ‘The American Gangster’ have to say, though? Let’s find out.

Chael Sonnen doubts Conor McGregor vs Logan Paul matchup
Ex-UFC fighter-turned-analyst Chael Sonnen recently mulled over the rumored Logan Paul vs. McGregor boxing match, expressing doubts whether the matchup will even happen. ‘The American Gangster’ pointed out, “There’s nowhere that Conor has fought for another promoter since he started fighting for this [Dana White] promoter. That has never happened.”
McGregor still has his last dance in the UFC with two fights left on his contract — so how did Dana White agree to this? Well, the important question to ask if Dana White even agreed to the match in the first place. Chael Sonnen had the same question and emphasized, “But there are also none of you that have a job—whatever industry you’re in—none of you, zero, have a job where your boss isn’t going to use you. Whatever department it is, whatever you do, your boss is not going to put you to work for another boss. That is not accurate.”

What Sonnen’s saying is true. Even Jake Paul said that McGregor wouldn’t be able to fight elsewhere unless he get the blessings of the UFC head honcho. At least, that was his condition for his facing ‘The Notorious’ in a potential boxing bout. He wouldn’t agree to box the Irishman if Dana White didn’t back that fight.
Dana White is the boss and his word is gospel in UFC. Just look at the fallout between him and Francis Ngannou in the past over their difference in priorities. Even White may be involved in the matchmaking according to MMA Junkie, there has been no official word from the boss. So what is really happening? We might just have to wait a little longer to see how this all plays out.
