It appears that Mike Tyson has trouble distinguishing between the Diaz brothers! The legendary heavyweight boxer and ‘The Baddest Man on The Planet’ is gearing up to face off against Jake Paul, the social media star turned boxer. The fight will take place on July 20 in Arlington, Texas, and will be live-streamed worldwide on Netflix.

While the bout has raised eyebrows due to the age difference between the two men, it appears that Tyson is taking the fight seriously as UFC CEO Dana White stated in his Lex Fridman podcast appearance, “I talked to his wife a couple of days ago. And he’s taking it seriously, and he’s training for it…”. But during a recent press conference to promote the event, Tyson questioned Jake Paul’s power and ended up inadvertently taking a shot at Nate Diaz!

During the press conference, Mike Tyson was asked to share his thoughts on the claims by many voices in the media that questioned Tyson’s ability to last all 8-rounds of the fight if he didn’t finish Jake Paul in the early rounds. Tyson responded by stating, “Okay, whatever. It’s hard to even really be, he’s not going to win. He can’t even knock out Nick Diaz, Nick Diaz is 40 pounds, how he going to knock me out?”

While the humorous jab by Tyson caused a lot of laughter from the crowd present at the press conference, the former heavyweight champion slipped up as he mixed up ‘Nate’ with ‘Nick’. The younger Diaz brother, Nate, fought Paul on August 5, 2023, in a 10-round bout which he lost via unanimous decision. And he weighs more than 40 lbs as he has competed in the UFC at 155 and 170 lbs or lightweight and welterweight!

Tyson also brought up Paul’s fight against Anderson Silva from 2022 as he proclaimed, “What’s the other guy, Anderson Silva, he didn’t knock those little guys, how he going to knock me out?” Who did he knock out, little children, he didn’t knock, never knocked out a real man, come on…”.

This time Tyson was correct as the fight between Silva and Paul ended in a unanimous decision win for the young man as ‘The Spider’ was unable to secure victory on the night. However, Paul does have the ability to finish his opponents as he knocked out former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in 2021 with a vicious shot that left the former MMA star face down on the canvas.

Despite the Diaz brother’s slip, Tyson’s confidence and playful jabs added to the anticipation and excitement surrounding the event as this fight symbolizes the changing landscape of professional boxing, blending traditional combat sports with modern entertainment. However, Tyson has also delivered a terrifying message to his opponent ahead of their clash!

As the fight approaches, both Tyson and Paul are heavily promoting the event. At a recent press conference in New York, Tyson elaborated on why the rounds for this fight are shorter than regular boxing matches. He believes that the two-minute rounds will lead to more intense and continuous action, keeping both the fighters and the audience engaged. “I wanted the shorter rounds because I wanted more action. If we only have two minutes, we’ll fight more,” Tyson stated.

The fight is scheduled for eight rounds, totaling sixteen minutes of fighting if it goes the distance. This strategy may benefit the older Tyson, helping him conserve energy and maintain his stamina against the much younger Paul.

Despite concerns about his endurance, Tyson displayed supreme confidence at the press conference. When asked about his intentions towards Paul, he delivered a chilling message: “Once he’s in that ring, he has to fight like his life depends on it, because it will be.”
