On 6 August 2023, the stage is set for the boxing clash between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul. Entering as the fourth UFC Veteran to face junior Paul, MMA fans have high hopes for the ‘Stockton Slugger’. Before him, none of his fellow UFC alums have managed to get past the former Disney star. According to many, Diaz might just be the one to avenge those losses and settle the score with the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Both Diaz and Paul are exerting confidence before the bout and it looks like fans are in for some serious action. Amidst all this, fans and experts are coming up with their predictions, with many preferring one over the other. But when everything seems all set and done, Chael Sonnen has some new revelations that might surprise a lot of people.

In the latest episode of his podcast, Chael Sonnen reveals the issue Nate Diaz has with the Texas Commission. According to him, the UFC star does not seem to be happy with the prohibition that the state has on Marijuana consumption. Chael further added the speculations about Diaz’s demand to fight somewhere else. But at the same time, he also insists that all this might just be rumors and that Nate would just follow the commission’s guidelines. In Chael Sonnen’s own words:

“Right, and then this is in conjunction with hearing that Nate Diaz isn’t happy with the Texas commission, the regulation or refusal thereof as it pertained to marijuana use. Right on the heels of hearing about that and then hearing speculation that Nate is asking to fight somewhere else, which, by the way, I don’t believe is true.”

For those unfamiliar with the laws, the state of Texas prohibits the use of Cannabis. This is something that can be an issue for Nate Diaz. The former UFC star is well known for his affinity towards Marijuana. His elder brother, Nick Diaz has previously faced sanctions over getting tested positive for the same, following his matchup with Anderson Silva at UFC  183.

Nate Diaz’s replacement for Jake Paul fight

Further in the video, Chael Sonnen talked about the recent stand-off between Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal in Miami. The former NCAA wrestler put a question mark on the motive behind the incident. This is considering that both Paul and Masvidal have been sparring partners before. Additionally, ‘Gamebred’ has also appeared in one of the recent videos of the former Disney star. Thus in subtle words, Sonnen indirectly hinted towards Masvidal replacing Diaz in the upcoming celebrity boxing match.

It is interesting to note that both Masvidal and Diaz have locked horns with each other in the past. In the first-ever title match for the BMF belt, the Miami native won following a doctor stoppage of Californian. This was the final match of his terror run at the UFC’s welterweight division with three straight victories. Now retired from the UFC, this sound like a great opportunity for the former bare-knuckle boxer to make some extra cash. In short, the idea of Jorge fighting Jake Paul doesn’t seem too unlikely.
