The crossover super-fight between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury is a perfect example of what combat sports at its best can be – wild and unpredictable. If you’re a heavyweight and possess frightening power like Francis Ngannou, you can change the course of a fight in the blink of an eye. His boxing bout against lineal and WBC boxing heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury was nothing short of a spectacle. Although Ngannou lost a one-point split decsion against ‘The Gypsy King’ in a fight where he knocked Fury down in the third round, things are only beginning to get interesting for the ex-UFC champion.

Tyson Fury had faced Deontay Wilder, who has perhaps the hardest right hand in boxing history, in a thrilling trilogy. But Wilder was a professional boxer with over thirty fights under his belt before their first fight in December 2018. And although Wilder was able to knock Fury down four times during their fight, the Englishman was by far the better boxer of the two. But it was not so with Ngannou, who nearly gave Fury his first loss on his debut. UFC veteran Daniel Cormier thinks this is the perfect time for Ngannou to fulfill his childhood dreams.

Cormier talked about the Fury vs. Ngannou fight on his YouTube channel. The former two-division UFC champion started off by admitting that he thought it was a bad idea for Ngannou to leave the UFC early this year without another contract.

“Fury won that fight 95-94. We all thought that by leaving the UFC and the guaranteed amount of money he was going to make, Francis Ngannou was making a mistake. But, when he got this fight, you kind of had to eat crow. Now he has gone not only into that fight but he’s over-delivered in that fight. So now there’s a world of opportunities still out there,” Cormier told fans.

Further, ‘DC’ told his listeners how Ngannou staying in the world of boxing better suited the French-Cameroonian. In fact, this stellar performance in Riyadh has just brought Fury closer to realising his oldest dream.

‘DC’ expanded on the possibilities that Ngannou had made for himself. He said that Francis did not need to go back to the PFL, the MMA promotion he signed with. Ngannou is slated to make his first PFL appearance in 2024.

“So what does he do next? Does he actually go to the PFL? When right now he could go out there and fight some of the other great heavyweights around the world. He could go fight Deontay Wilder and nobody would bat an eye. Nobody,” Cormier said.

The UFC commentator said ‘The Predator’ could fight other top boxing heavyweight contenders such as Deontay Wilder or Dillian Whyte. And given his performance against the champion, Fury, no one would object. And it would also fulfill Ngannou’s childhood dream of being a boxer.
