Mike Tyson’s return in a fight against Jake Paul became one of the most important sporting moments not only in 2024 but also in recent years. After all, it was the much-awaited return of the baddest man that the boxing world has ever seen. The 58-year-old has been the original ‘Notorious’ before Conor McGregor took that moniker; however, it seems like it wasn’t his true personality after all. How do we know that? Well, this fact has been revealed by none other than Joe Rogan.
Speaking to the founder and host of the popular hunting show “Bone Collector,” Joe Rogan discussed with Michael Waddell how many celebrities actually put on a show in front of the crowd and never reveal their true selves. The JRE host stated that celebrities were always people on a pedestal and you didn’t think of them as real people. But now, with so much being exposed, it helps us, the people, shed the ridiculous perceptions of celebrities as larger-than-life characters. The perfect example is Mike Tyson.
While talking about ‘the baddest man on the planet,’ Michael Waddell revealed that, unlike his moniker, Tyson is actually quite the opposite in real life. “As a boxer, I idolized him—he was the toughest, baddest guy in the ring. But as a person, I didn’t know much about him back then. Now, when I listen to him, I realize what a sweetheart of a man he is. He says things you wouldn’t expect. Like, I remember when he asked you, ‘Joe, you ever get aroused when you fight?’ You giggled, but he was dead serious! That’s the kind of insight you get now, and it’s fascinating.”

Joe Rogan too chimed in, as he agreed exactly with the fact that Mike Tyson is actually a very sweet man in real life. It is just that the boxer has perfected the art of switching his personality to perfectly fit his persona as the scary fighter that one definitely cannot mess with. After all, we fans are aware of how important it is for one to be marketable alongside being a good fighter. An art that has been perfected by ‘Iron Mike’ and Conor McGregor. “He’s a sweet guy, but there’s a monster in there, dude, and he can hit that switch.”

Joe Rogan reveals the unbeatable quality of Mike Tyson
The argument between talent and hard work has always existed in the sporting world. Does Lionel Messi’s skill outweigh Cristiano Ronaldo’s hard work? This is a never-ending question. However, in JRE episode #2229, Joe Rogan admitted that life is not always fair. While many people around the world want equal results for equal effort, the truth is that there will always be individuals with an unrivaled mix of talent and guts, such as Mike Tyson.

The UFC commentator said, “You’re occasionally going to get a Michael Jordan—a guy who works harder than everybody, and he’s gifted, and he’s going to exceed. Nothing you can do about Mike Tyson when he was 22 years old. Get the f*** out of the way; pick up tennis. He’s going to k*ll you.” With his inborn talent and the coaching of coach Cus D’Amato, it didn’t take long for the boxer to go from being a nobody to being named ‘The Kid Dynamite.’
Despite being 58 years old, Tyson was still able to take the fight against Jake Paul to the final round. This shows that no matter how old one gets, the talent they have within never dies. The boxer also mixed it with his hard work by grabbing weights and leaving his vegetarian diet behind for the fight. So, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that the boxer is a freak of nature. But what do you think? Do you believe Mike Tyson is the boxing GOAT? Let us know in the comments.
