UFC welterweight veteran Matt Brown talked about Michael Chandler and his strategy in the UFC. Although he is known for producing exciting fights inside the octagon, Brown believes Chandler can do better and win more championships. “Iron” Chandler has racked up a lot of post-fight bonuses but sports a UFC record of 2 wins and 3 losses. The fighters to whom he has lost have moved up the rankings. But the former Bellator lightweight champion is yet to win a championship in the UFC even though he has consistently proved to be a great showman during his fights.
He has been consistent in earning either the “Fight of the Night” or the “performance of the Night” awards. However, the UFC fighter recently got compared to other names.
Chandler recently suffered a loss from Dustin Poirier last November. Matt Brown believes that ‘Iron’ needs to change his strategy going forward to earn a UFC title shot. He said, “He needs to fix his strategy. “In my particular style, that’s just how I fight. That’s how I beat guys. I go in, I wear them out, I make it a tough fight, kind of a Dustin Poirier kind of thing.”

The 41-year-old fighter also believes that Chandler puts on a show only for the fans and doesn’t want to fight for himself. Brown stated that there are two ways of going about a fighting career – a fighter can fight for the crowd and the audience or a fighter can fight to earn championships in the business.
Matt Brown compares Michael Chandler to Arturo Gatti
Brown has made a comparison of Chandler’s career to that of boxer Arturo Gatti. He believes both of them have the ability to put on a show for the fans but do not possess ‘those skills’. He said that Floyd Mayweather was easily able to get the upper hand against Gatti during their fights. But he firmly believes that besides comparing him to Gatti, Chandler has the ability to win titles.

Matt Brown has stated that ‘Iron’ Chandler doesn’t want to win championships because he does not fight as a champion does. He believes Chandler’s career will go down the way Gatti’s did. “He chooses to be Arturo Gatti when he could be Floyd Mayweather. Whether that’s right or wrong, we’ll have to see if he ever changes up his style, but that’s what it seems to me is his own choice,” said Brown. The MMA veteran also believes that Chandler would rather be an exciting fighter than a champion.
