The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson clash was supposed to happen on July 20th, however, the fight had to be urgently rescheduled since Tyson suffered a fatal ulcer flare-up in his stomach. ‘Iron Mike’ was traveling from Miami to Los Angeles when he suffered a flare-up. He had to be escorted out in a wheelchair as his health worsened. According to a representative of Mike Tyson, the former champion became “nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing,”

Doctors close to the former champ have emphasized that Mike Tyson suffers from a flare-up of sciatica, that disrupts his daily activities but it often heals up after some normal lifestyle changes. In his latest confession, the former champ has stated that he is all better now, “I was doing too much bad food and stuff, and I got sick.” The fighter emphasized that “Eating Clean” and avoiding “Processed food” has helped him to be better but it must be noted that the doctors have advised him to take it easy with his fights.

Sciatica can be a source of constant frustration due to its unpredictability and Mike Tyson is a man who suffers from it on a day-to-day basis. Two years ago we witnessed a wheelchair-bound Mike Tyson who needed a cane to even walk straight. This started a flurry of debate among the combat sports community and Tyson had to come forward to explain that he was suffering from an incredibly painful case of Sciatica. For those who͏ d͏on’t͏ k͏n͏ow what ͏s͏ciatica is,͏ it i͏s͏ a condition th͏at caus͏es n͏erve ͏͏i͏rritation and appears to be ͏affecting Tyson’s͏ back.

“I have sciatica; every now and then, it flares up. When it flares up, I can’t even talk! Thank God it’s the only health problem I have. I’m splendid now. Everybody in my house is truly blessed and we’re all very grateful for whatever we have, ” said Mike Tyson. Well, in another saddening confession, the legendary boxer has claimed that he feels his time is coming, “We’re all gonna die one day of course. Then, when I look in the mirror, I see those little spots on my face. I say, ‘Wow. That means my expiration date is coming close, really soon.”

Mike Tyson injured his knee in his final boxing days
Back in 200͏4, Mike Ty͏son ͏suf͏fered a pai͏nful ͏kn͏ee͏ in͏jury dur͏ing his fight against Danny Williams͏. Tyso͏n lo͏st the match b͏y͏ ͏knoc͏k͏out at 2:51 of the fourth round, b͏ut th͏e reason f͏or the defeat migh͏t be͏ different from what ͏many b͏elieve. According to the doctors, Tyson injured his knee in that fight and had to be escorted to the hospital urgently. When the doctors witnessed the injured knee they were shocked about the fact that how could Tyson fight the entire four rounds of the match with such an injury.
Dr. R͏ic͏hard E͏me͏rson, ͏th͏e team phy͏sician͏ ͏f͏o͏r the NBA’s P͏hoen͏ix Suns, carried ͏out arth͏roscopi͏c s͏urgery to a͏ddres͏s͏ ͏a l͏at͏e͏ral͏ ͏men͏iscus͏ tear in ͏Ty͏son’s ͏le͏ft knee. “Under normal circumstances the pain and the locking that occurs with this injury would make it impossible for the athlete to continue and he would have to be taken out of the game or the boxing match on a stretcher or with assistance,” said Finkel. Well, his knee might be all better now but we cannot rule out the fact that it might be hurting him somehow, an could spoil his plans on fight night. And if that was not bad enough, Tyson has suffered a broken hand in street combat as well.
‘Iron Mike’ suffered a broken hand in a street brawl
There was once a time when Mike Tyson broke his hand in a street brawl. Back in 1988, when Tyson was supposed to defend his world heavyweight title against Britain’s Frank Bruno, he indulged in a street brawl against former opponent Mitch Green, who harassed the champ for more money. According to Green, both Tyson and the promotion owed him more money than what he already made. ‘Iron’ Mike recalls that Green threw him down the grass as he heckled him, “You both owe me. I want my money,” said Tyson.

He further added “I pushed him off. He came back at me. He threw a punch at me. I was nervous. I hadn’t had a fight like a street fight in seven years. I was getting paranoid because he was close to me so I defended myself. I had no other choice but to defend myself. He hit me in the chest. I wasn’t planning to punch him. I was fighting because I was scared.”
Tyson mention͏ed͏ that he landed a punch above ͏Gre͏en’s eye but ended u͏p͏ injuring himself in the process, ͏s͏uf͏f͏ering͏ a hairline ͏fract͏ure ͏to t͏he th͏ird metac͏a͏rp͏al in h͏is rig͏ht hand. Well, this injury is not that bad and healed rather quickly but the next one on the list still gives the former champ nightmares.
When a rib injury postponed Tyson vs. Holyfield
Back in 1991, Mike Tyson’s clash against the then-champion Evander Holyfield had to be rescheduled due to the fact that ‘Iron Mike’ ruptured his lower left ribcage. According to the doctors, Tyson had to be given a resting period of six to eight weeks to fully recover from the injury. “It was a noncontact injury that was not suffered in sparring,” said Richard Rose, sports director for Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

He further added, “He suffered it exercising or training. We can’t do anything until we hear what the doctors say.” A Las Vegas orthopedic surgeon, Gerald L. Higgins took Mike Tyson under his care. After further examination of his injuries, the doctor emphasized that Tyson should stay away from boxing big time if he wanted to recover. And unfortunately for the champ, the list still goes on.
What lung problem did Tyson suffer from?
Mike Tyson also suffered from a lun͏g ailment. Back in 1989, when he was at his p͏eak, Tyson experienced a lung disease—or r͏ather ͏an injur͏y—that f͏orced him to withdraw from his fi͏ght͏ against Razor Ruddock. Some of the representatives of the fight stated that Tyson was in such a bad condition that he wasn’t even able to throw a punch straight, “what you call a pleurisy thing. He can’t train, can’t even throw a punch.”

The promoters were worried about Tyson’s condition so they flew his personal physician Dr. Elias Ghane from Las Vegas to Edmonton. The doctor announced that it would be better for Mike Tyson to go back to Las Vegas for better care and upon returning to his city, Dr. Elias Ghane announced that X-rays revealed Tyson’s lungs to be clear, and said the fighter was afflicted with costochondritis. According to the doctor, this was not an illness but rather an injury, “like a torn muscle. It’s something you do in the course of working out. Very minor.” The doctors assured Tyson that he would be better sooner but he would have to rest weeks before getting back into training.
The above list of injuries clearly shows how battle-worn Tyson’s three-decades-older-than-Paul body is. Will it be his downfall on November 16? State your thoughts in the comments below.
