Oscar De La Hoya vs. Dana White—Who's the real villain in this combat sports saga?

One of the most heated frictions in the world of combat sports is not between the fighters, but between the bosses of UFC and Golden Boy Promotions. The fire between Oscar De La Hoya and Dana White has been burning for a long time now. Both CEOs have talked trash about each other on multiple occasions. And the Cold War still continues with no hope of reconciliation.

Now, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions stepped forward to expose the truth behind some of the UFC head honcho’s tactics. Let’s see what De La Hoya had to say.

The former professional boxer appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s talk show, ‘Club Shay Shay’, on the 15th date of August 2024. However, De La Hoya felt his blood boil as the former American football tight end asked about his relationship with White. No doubt, the two were pretty close in the early 2000s. But things began to go awry when De La Hoya opted to retire in 2009 and started his own fighting business.

The Golden Boy Promotions CEO said, “Yeah, we were. We were actually cool. When I first thought about getting into the MMA… Yeah, I strongly feel that he just wanted to bury me, you know. Not have competition, you know. He started talking s**t about me, you know. Yeah, the… What does he talk about me? The c**e and the p*nty hose… So what? 15 years ago, like, so what! And what that I don’t have friends and like…”

But apparently, the UFC CEO wasn’t a fan of getting tough competition, even though Golden Boy Promotion dealt with boxing and not mixed martial arts. De La Hoya continued, “It’s absurd, because literally I don’t even think about it. We’re in different sports. He does his thing, I do my thing. Just because I wanted to start a little competition, he gets all [bangs his chest like a gorilla] you know. ‘Let me, let me scream louder!’”

The former boxer didn’t forget to dig up the controversial history of White. He claimed that he didn’t have anything to say to someone who slapped his wife in public and got dissed by his own mother in a book. But what has the UFC bossman said about his former friend? Let’s find out!

UFC CEO brands Golden Boy Promotion CEO a ‘two-faced lying nutjob’

Back in June, when the UFC head honcho had a long talk with Sharpe, he was reminded of his relationship with De La Hoya. Needless to say, the verbal spats that the duo exchanged isn’t something oblivious to the fighting community. But when the former tight end pointed out that De La Hoya once allegedly claimed that White created hurdles for him when an event in the boxer’s promotion involved Georges St-Pierre, White couldn’t seem to control his rage.

Lashing out at the boxing promotion CEO, White said, “Oscar De La Hoya, okay, is a f**king is a two-faced lying f**king nut job, you know, and yeah me me and Oscar are never going to be cool.”

Their spat took a turn for the worse back in 2021 after a standoff on social media. After UFC 266, De La Hoya posted on X a comment for then champion and PPV headliner Alexander Volkanovski. The former champion said Volkanovski was making only 1/20th of his worth and called for White to pay athletes better. In retaliation, White called his rival a “crackhead” and accused him of faking COVID to get out of a bout against Vitor Belfort.

In in IG story in response to the former boxer, White wrote, “Don’t worry about Volkanovski, you clown. He has a team of very intelligent, sophisticated people behind him and he’s clearly doing very well for himself. If he needs to buy an 8-ball, then maybe he will reach out to you for some guidance. It’s no secret you’re a liar, drug addict and all around scumbag. It doesn’t matter that you ‘laced up the gloves’ and there is no doubt you accomplished big things in boxing but out of the ring you are an absolute f*cking loser.”

The UFC CEO also accused ‘The Golden Boy’ of paying fighters trivial amounts during his ‘one and done’ MMA promotion effort. So it’s safe to say that the beef that started when De La Hoya openly blasted the Mayweather-McGregor bout is not going to end anytime soon.

This is indeed one of the stories that will always be burning with heated emotions from either side. What are your thoughts on the relationship between White and De La Hoya? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
