Can Jake Paul truly challenge the legendary Mike Tyson, or is this just a publicity stunt?

Fight fans are just about two weeks away from witnessing what could be the biggest boxing match in recent history: Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul. Tyson will return at the age of 58 to face his much younger opponent, who is 27. Let us not forget that Paul has found success in the ring, 10-1, though he has been criticized for fighting mostly aged-out UFC fighters like Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley.

Woodley made his boxing debut in August 2021 to face Paul. Unfortunately, he lost via split decision and hence, immediately pushed for a rematch. So, in December 2021, they fought again. But this time, the outcome was far worse as the former UFC champion was knocked out by Paul in the sixth round. What does he think about Tyson versus Paul?

In a new interview with TMZ Sport, ‘The Chosen One’ opined, “It’s a very even fight, to be honest. It is even because of the age of Mike Tyson. He is completely obviously out of his prime. When in his prime, most of his fights were almost attempted murder.”

“So literally, Jake would have still a chance. Nobody would even commission to sanction a fight against him and Mike Tyson. And Jake’s always on a win-win situation. He is fighting guys that if he lose, ‘You lost to this guy, you lost to Tyron. You lost to Anderson Silva. You lost to Nate Diaz or whatever’. So he is always in a position where, if he wins, he goes up. If he loses, it’s like okay, he took a risk, he took a chance.”

Additionally, Woodley shared, “So, I like the fight. I’ll be at the fight.”

Well, it is difficult to disagree with T-Wood. After all, Tyson’s last fight was against Kevin McBride in 2005. Back then, no one expected McBride to win despite his being much taller and heavier than ‘Iron’. But by round 6, it was clear that Tyson was almost done. He was down on the canvas, his back up against the ropes, and his legs were spread apart. Though he lumbered back to his corner, he refused to get back up for round 7.

McBride won the fight, but the spotlight was grabbed by Mike Tyson, who announced his retirement. Then in 2020, ‘Iron’ entered the ring once again but for an eight-round exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

Now that Tyson’s upcoming fight against Jake Paul is inching closer, many fans are worried about the veteran. While Woodley is concerned about Mike Tyson’s age, ‘Iron Mike’ continues to show no signs of retreating, as he still considers himself the “bad guy” of the combat sports world—a sentiment he recently reaffirmed in a discussion.

Mike Tyson: His honest reflection before his comeback fight

“I can’t change myself. I am Mike Tyson.” Tyson wasn’t wrong when he made this statement about himself years ago. He is someone who was once referred to as ‘the baddest man on the planet’ and who didn’t even hesitate to resort to biting his opponent’s ear for an advantage in a fight.

His career has been a source of motivation for many young fighters, yet it also offers valuable lessons on how to keep your head straight during your peak, despite facing numerous odds.

Now inching towards his 60s, as a father, husband, podcaster, and once-convicted felon, he still carries that demeanor, which he showcased in a new conversation with The Independent. He stated, “There’s nothing nice about me. I’m not a nice person. I’m a decent person; I try to do the right thing. But a nice person, I am not.”

“Anybody with the idea that I’m a nice person is gonna be disappointed. I’m just not. I don’t make people happy for no reason; I’m just who I am. I’m not trying to gain friends; that’s basically what I’m saying. I don’t want to make friends with you; I don’t care if you put me on your yacht. I don’t give a f—.”

Well, we will have to see if this mentality helps him win against Paul. Tyson versus Paul is scheduled to take place on Nov. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight won’t be available on TV but will be streamed on Netflix.

The bout was originally scheduled to happen on July 20, but an ulcer flare-up forced the veteran boxer to push the dates.
