Is John Fury's minimalism genuine, or just a smokescreen for the Fury family's money-driven motives?

The Fury family is one of the most recognized lineages in the sport of boxing and consists of multiple generations of fighters. Moreover, Tyson Fury has captured championship gold on many occasions, which of course brings a lot of financial benefits as well. However, his father, John Fury, doesn’t give too much importance to money, which former UFC fighter Darren Till finds to be a big lie.

John will be cornering Tyson’s brother, Tommy Fury when the former ‘Love Island’ star gets inside the boxing ring with the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev’s friend and former training partner, Darren Till, in the latter’s second boxing match ever. Ahead of their fight, ‘The Gorilla’ came across a video of John Fury, talking about his preference for a minimalistic lifestyle.

“I don’t need money. I don’t like money. As long as I’ve got enough to feed myself [and] pay the bills, I’m happy. There’s my old car in the car park. 32-year-old red Mercedes. Gets me from A to B,” Tyson Fury’s father was seen saying in an interview. “Keep laughing. That’s John Fury. I’m not interested [in money].” However, Till didn’t seem to buy those statements, responding to the claims on X by saying, “Stop lying little John.”

Darren Till and John Fury have been on each others’ necks since the first press conference of the former’s clash against Tommy Fury in January. But maybe there’s an ounce of truth behind Till calling out Tyson Fury’s father for lying. It is because ‘The Gypsy King’ recently agreed to fight Oleksandr Usyk again only when his terms about the payout were accepted.

Tyson Fury put a 70-30 demand to fight Oleksandr Usyk

It seems like money does matter to the Fury family because the former WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury wasn’t willing to participate in the first bout against Oleksandr Usyk until he was promised to be given 70 percent of the whole earnings from the pay-per-view. Initially, the promoters put forward a 60-40 offer to ‘The Gypsy King’, but that did not impress Fury. “I see all this talk about boxing fights, that they want 50%, Tyson being greedy. Where I’m standing: Usyk, you and your team are worth 30%. You either take it or leave it,” Fury stated on Instagram.

After months of negotiations, Tyson Fury and the promoters found themselves on the same page. ‘The Gypsy King’ went on to lose the fight, although by a split decision, to be exact. But that didn’t seem to matter much because the English star reportedly took home more than $100 million that night.

Also, it has always been a staple plan for the former heavyweight champion to increase his bank balance instead of winning championships. “It’s not a belt, it’s not a legacy. It’s not a boxing fight [and] it’s to make as much money as possible,” Fury stated almost a month ago.
