Former UFC champ Jose Aldo‘s scathing comments on Conor McGregor following his boxing bout against Jeremy Stephens at Gamebred Boxing 4 had initially taken the MMA community by surprise. Responding to a tweet by the Irishman, Aldo lashed out at him, calling him a big mouth in the process.

Days after all these went down, the Brazilian appears to have interestingly made a turnaround in his opinion of McGregor. Speaking to MMA Fighting, the former featherweight champ revealed the real reason for his lashing out at ‘The Notorious’ while also adding that he wouldn’t mind training with McGregor ahead of his rumored fight against Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Aldo explained that the reason for his lashing out at McGregor was the frustration of the fight with Stephens, which, much to his disappointment, had ended in a draw.

“I was a little heated,” Aldo said, as he pointed out that he had just rewatched his fight and was still frustrated at the result.

Explaining that McGregor’s initial tweet, where the Irishman had asked for a boxing bout with him was just an attempt to add a bit more hype to his name; Aldo said that he reached out to the former double champ and even apologized to him once he was back home.

“But when I got to Brazil, I messaged him apologizing because I saw it wasn’t his intention to challenge me. He was trying to give me a push,” he said.

Aldo talks about teaming up with McGregor for rumored Floyd Mayweather bout

Surprisingly, the Brazilian even said that he was open to working with McGregor if the opportunity presented itself. Claiming that he still had to learn a lot when it comes to the sweet science of boxing, the 36-year-old also said he didn’t mind training with Irish boxers.

Considering that he could eventually end up facing Floyd Mayweather somewhere down the line, as rumors suggest, Aldo’s openness to training with ‘The Notorious’ doesn’t come as a surprise.

“I have to learn from the best.” He said, “Conor has good boxing. He fought Mayweather in boxing, so he has a lot to teach me.”
