UFC broadcaster Joe Rogan spoke out about Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. on his podcast ‘Joe Rogan Experience’. Rogan was joined by Willy D and Mike Judge and the three had plenty to talk about ahead of the boxing exhibition. Tyson and Jones headline the charity event on November 28, 2020, and the combat sports world cannot wait.
Joe Rogan shared a funny insight involving Mike Tyson and an interior designing change that he was about to undertake. Rogan recently moved into a new studio and he revealed that he was going to shorten the length of his table. This would be done to create a more intimate conversational atmosphere with his guests. However, a prolonged interaction with ‘Iron’ Mike would change it all for Rogan.

“Wanna hear something crazy, the distance we are apart from each other on this table, I was gonna make it closer because this new studio is a little more compact. But I had Mike in at the last podcast. Mike’s been on twice, once about 11 months ago. And when he was on 11 months ago, he said he couldn’t even work out.”
“He said, ‘If I work out my ego will get ignited and I’ll just wanna destroy again. I wanna be the Mike Tyson of old, I want nothing to do with that, that’s my past, I’m done’. Then his wife called him fat and he started working out… Then he’s doing 2 hours. He gets in tremendous shape and then someone says, ‘would you box?’ He says ‘Oh, I’m not boxing anybody and they go ‘what about for $30 million, and he ‘what? $30 million and he decides….”

“I’m nervous in the room with him”- Tyson
‘Iron Mike’ has always had an intimidating presence, and it seems as though it has carried forward into his 50s. What’s more, he’s been retired since 2005 but it would seem as though he still possesses a killer instinct.

“So this distance between us is cause he was so amped up. It was like a different human being. The first time we were smoking we*d, he’s relaxed, he’s got Tyson Ranch…first podcast we did, we got barbecued, we had a great time. Second podcast we did, he was so intense. We were talking about great conquerors and sh*t and I’m like ‘I’m nervous’ in the room with him’.”

“Like he’s so amped up….he’s like Mike Tyson of old, his mindset. Whether or not he’s physically capable of it, his mindset is like Mike Tyson of old. It was legitimately nervous to be in the room with him. He’s ready to go right now. And I’m like I’m gonna make my table a little wider [chuckles]. If I was even closer to him than this…I’d probably be nervous, I’d be more nervous.”
Tyson and Jones will duke it out under modified rules in a bout that no one really saw coming. It remains to be seen whether this exhibition match-up will serve as the sustained return of Tyson. Fans of the legendary boxer will be keen to see him step under the bright lights after 15 years away from active competition.
