Is Jake Paul biting off more than he can chew by even considering a fight with Mike Tyson?

Mike Tyson, at 58-year-old, will face Jake Paul, who is three decades younger than him and in his prime, at a professional boxing match on November 15. Given the vast gap in their age, Iron Mike’s well-known health issues, and the fact that the former champ hasn’t fought for two decades since calling it quits in 2005 (except for a friendly exhibition in 2020), the bout has outraged fight fans.

And the worst case scenario, of course, is that Tyson, who is still the most beloved fighter in the world, gets humiliated and god forbid, even knocked out by ‘The Problem Child’! Among those worried about this exact scenario is Joe Rogan, who spoke to former UFC fighters Matt Serra, John Rallo, and coach Din Thomas on episode #163 of the JRE MMA Show.

“I really hope he [Paul] doesn’t knock Mike Tyson out. I’ll just be real bummed out to see Mike get KOed at 58 years old,” Rogan told his guests.

However, he felt that since it was Mike Tyson after all, one of the greatest and most feared to ever do it, Rogan felt that the former heavyweight champ was more than capable of stopping Paul. If that is, Tyson could close the distance and catch the former Disney star with his legendary power punches.

[On the other hand], he [Tyson] is perfectly capable [of knocking Paul out]. If he [Pau] zigs when he should have zagged, if Mike can close the distance in a way that he doesn’t expect. And Mike also has layers upon layers of attacks that are in his mind. He’s forgotten more about boxing than Jake Paul has ever remembered,” he added. But Rogan, of course, would prefer if the fight never took place in the first place.

Joe Rogan explains why he wishes the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul didn’t happen

Just a few days ago, Joe Rogan voiced serious concerns about the highly anticipated Tyson-Paul fight, echoing the worries of many fight fans who are uneasy about the significant age gap between the two fighters. Rogan, a lifelong fan of ‘Iron Mike,’ admitted that he would prefer to see the boxing legend avoid stepping into the ring against someone so much younger.

Still, despite his reservations, the UFC commentator also made it clear that he fully understood and even supported Tyson’s desire to face one of the toughest challenges of his life. “I wish it wasn’t a thing where a 58-year-old guy was going to fight a 28-year-old,” Rogan confessed on his podcast. “That said, I fully support his desire to do it.”

For Rogan, this isn’t just another fight. Tyson has been a childhood hero for the podcaster and a major reason Rogan got into the fight game to begin with. The thought of seeing a living legend, someone who dominated the sport for so long, now risk it all against a much younger opponent could be heartbreaking. The fear of watching Tyson get knocked out is shared by many, and it would undoubtedly be a devastating moment. But this is Mike Tyson we’re talking about. If anyone could defy the odds at 58, it’s him.

And while the matchup might seem impossible on paper—pitting an aging icon against a fighter in his prime—there’s always a chance Tyson’s unparalleled grit could pull off the unimaginable. What do you think about the upcoming Tyson-Paul fight? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
