“And I guess I was wrong on one thing, you’re not Lonesome Eddie, you’re linked to several women, so you’re phony Eddie.” This sharp line, delivered by Oscar De La Hoya in a Thanksgiving Week social media clip last year, was part of his ‘Clapback Thursday ‘ series. In it, the American boxing promoter took aim at British promoter Eddie Hearn, calling him out for his infidelity and adultery. Although ‘The Golden Boy’ may have scaled back his role as a promoter, he has certainly found a new niche in his viral ‘ Clapback Thursday’ segment.
This humorous series, which started in 2020, has allowed Oscar De La Hoya to respond to the latest news in combat sports while throwing jabs at his critics and online haters. His unique approach has continued to captivate audiences all the way into 2025. However, this Thursday’s Clapback might be postponed for a compelling reason. Why? UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan has recently caught De La Hoya’s attention.
During the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience (#2280), Rogan posed a question to his guest, writer and director Peter Berg: “Do you watch Oscar? Seems like he’s a little off the rails. Do you watch?” The remark didn’t sit well with Oscar De La Hoya, who quickly took to Instagram to respond. He warned the Podcaster, “Due to THIS interview on the @joeroganexperience that came out a few hours ago, Clapback has been postponed a day because it will be one for the ages. @joerogan, I will show you exactly what it means to be ‘off the rails’ tomorrow.”

This is not the first time Rogan has raised a question about Oscar De La Hoya. Back in January 2023, the Austin resident had another bone to pick with ‘Golden Boy.’ Talking to the now-welterweight champion of the UFC, Belal Muhammad, on JRE MMA Show #134, he questioned De La Hoya sporting six-pack abs.
“Why did Oscar De La Hoya have fake abs? have you seen that bro Oscar De La Hoya has done fake abs, something’s going on man like Oscar De La Hoya didn’t have abs thoughout his boxing career. Look at him now bro, what’s going on there? Either he has some fake abs or he going semi glutide one or the other” Rogan said. He even compared De La Hoya to the infamous influencer Liver King – “The thing is his abs don’t match his chest or arms look how defined his abs are they’re evenly sitting there. It’s like the Liver King, it’s fully tight.”

Joe Rogan addresses the allegations made by Australian media mogul Kim Williams
Joe Rogan has never been short of critics, whether from the media or major broadcasters. He’s long been a target, with the spotlight on him intensifying after his 2020 disussions about COVID-19. Rogan claimed to his millions of listeners that he treated his COVID-19 with ivermectin, a drug primarily used for animals. Since then, he’s regularly clashed with media outlets, especially CNN and ABC News, which have taken jabs at him, even dubbing him a “dragon believer.” Despite the constant criticism, the podcaster remains unfazed, responding with humor. He made ‘Dragon Believer’ his official X account description, and it is still there if you want to see for yourself.

One memorable example came last November when Australian broadcaster Kim Williams criticized Joe Rogan, saying, “I think people like Mr. Rogan prey on people’s vulnerabilities. They prey on fear. They prey on anxiety. They prey on all the elements that contribute to uncertainty in society, and they entrepreneur fantasy outcomes and conspiracy outcomes as being a normal part of social narrative.” As always, Rogan had the last laugh, simply retweeting the comment with “LOL WUT” on X.
