Is Jake Paul really the villain, or is he just exposing the hypocrisy in combat sports?

Jake Paul is probably the most hated guy in the entire combat sports world. After all, most fans find his arrogant and brash persona very dislikable, not to mention his proclivity to fight older, smaller MMA guys way past this prime, or his decision to fight 57-year-old Mike Tyson last weekend. But Paul is puzzled why he gets so much hate, especially after Conor McGregor was found guilty of sexual assault in a civil trial recently.

“Dana hits his wife Conor’s convicted of rape But I’m the bad guy?” Paul tweeted after McGregor’s recent judgment in an Irish court was made public.

Of course, ‘The Problem Child’ is referencing a video of Dana White and his wife on New Year’s Eve in 2022, where the couple were seen slapping each other. The UFC CEO has been very regretful of the whole incident, and publicly admitted fault, telling Shannon Sharpe on ‘Club Shay Shay’ that “there’s never, ever an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman.”

Jake Paul, of course, feels there is a clear double standard among fans if Dana White and McGregor enjoy widespread popularity in the combat sports world despite doing worse things outside the cage, than he has ever done. Not to mention Paul has a very real and very heated enmity with Dana White and the Irishman, both of whom absolutely hate his guts. But Paul seems to revel in the fans’ hate and has put it to good use, selling his fights off of it. ‘The Problem Child’ faced a lot of criticism for fighting Mike Tyson in the boxing ring, but seemed unfazed with all the hate being directed his way.

Why Jake Paul fought Mike Tyson knowing he will be even more hated among fight fans

Jake Paul’s decision to fight Mike Tyson, who is an old man three decades his senior, was universally hated in the fight world. Even though he won a unanimous decision, ‘The Problem Child’s popularity among fight fans only plummeted after the clash. And that has made some wonder about just why ‘The Problem Child’ decided to fight Tyson in the first place. After all, any result would have been a loss for him in optics.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jake Paul really the villain, or is he just exposing the hypocrisy in combat sports?

Have an interesting take?

Well, it seems the biggest reason is simple – money. The former Disney star reportedly made $40 million to fight Tyson in what many consider to be a sham of a fight. After all, Tyson is not only 58 but suffers from a bevy of health issues, some of which have even forced him to use wheelchairs on occasion.

But Paul is a firm believer in the old adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Fighting Mike Tyson has only made him more famous. Already getting paid more than most boxing champions, Paul would be expected not to be too mindful of the hate he gets from fans. But his latest Twitter post blasting Dana White and McGregor does make it seem like he wants the fans’ approval. How successful he will be in getting it, however, remains to be seen. What do you think about Jake Paul’s scathing post towards the UFC head honcho and his biggest star?
