In the world of combat sports, clashes occur verbally and not just physically. Having won his boxing fight against UFC Veteran Nate Diaz, Jake Paul appeared on an episode of Mike Tyson’s podcast. On the episode of “Hotboxin With Mike Tyson”, Jake Paul addressed his ongoing exchange with Dana White, the President of the UFC. The due have been famously throwing snide remarks at each other, although Paul has officially not entered the world of MMA.

Paul has drawn multiple MMA fighters into the boxing ring; in fights that have turned out to become huge events with large payouts. The YouTube sensation turned boxer engaged in a candid conversation with Iron Mike and his co-host and shed some light on the verbal back and forth. Mike’s co-host brought up Dana White and informed Jake that it was on this show that the UFC President confirmed he does not “hate” Jake Paul. Referencing the events of a previous interview, the host got Jake Paul to open up.

The feud between Jake Paul and Dana White might have taken center stage. But the true motive behind their exchanges is far more significant than a simple clash of egos. During the podcast, Jake Paul shed light on his underlying motivation, stating, “Yeah look, I mean I don’t hate him either. I just want him to pay fighters more. You know, now that the company is making billions of dollars a year and the fighters are only getting 15 percent of it”. Paul also elaborated on how the real reason for the dispute was his push for better fighter pay.

Paul further said, “But then like the message of why we started like, why I started picking at him. He started the beef by saying like ‘Oh Ben Askren’s gonna wipe the floor with him’. I think it was actually on this show.’ Mike during the interview asked, “What kinda characteristic did Ben possess that can make Dana believe that he could win?”. Jake clarified that at that point he hadn’t established his credibility as a fighter. Ben Askren was revered in the MMA world and therefore that must’ve prompted people to believe that Askren would easily upset him according to ‘The Problem Child’.

Straying away from the crux of the fight

The verbal exchanges also border on the realm of entertainment according to the former Disney star. Paul said, “Obviously, we’ve gotten into these exchanges that like muddies the purpose of why I’ve argued with him. But he throws out ‘The fights are rigged, he’s on steroids’”. Hinting at the exchanges that fuel the fight, he continued, “Then I say something back about him being bald and ugly and then it just gets like too messy and then we start going back and forth. And then it’s just like stupid and then it’s just like entertainment”.

However, Jake Paul at the end of the day clarified that his battle with Dana is primarily limited to the domain of fighter pay and healthcare benefits. ‘The Problem Child’ calculates that this compensation would barely set the UFC back financially. In turn, it would have unparalleled benefits for the fighters and the sport. The fan following that Paul brings with him has definitely helped the sport shed some light on these underlying organizational dilemmas. Whether Jake Paul will venture into the Octagon someday is something fans will have to wait and discover.
