Mixed martial artists frequently occupy the spotlight, with the sport often featuring both intense trash-talking and verbal disputes. However, fighters also characterize it by demonstrating camaraderie and mutual respect towards each other. Some of the more interesting moments in the sport’s history are re-lived when other fighters choose to bring it to life. Nevertheless, the most iconic moments make waves even outside of the world of MMA. One such moment came alive when someone referenced a career-defining speech given by none other than Conor McGregor.

Aadam Hamed, son of the now-retired, legendary boxer, Naseem Hamed, recently fought the first-ever boxing match of his career. He bagged a win, kicking his career off the right way. However, what happened at the post-match interview caught the eye of combat fans worldwide and even the ‘Notorious’ himself. Speaking on his love for the sport, the young Hamed said, “You know, I’m not here to take part I’m here to take over. Remember that”. The move was instantly recognized by long-time MMA fans and even ‘The Notorious’ who took to X to applaud Aadam Hamed.

McGregor shared a snippet of the young Hamed’s post-match interview on X. The Irishman wrote, “I am going to show this to my son Conor Jr, and tell him that this is the son of the man who inspired me to become I who I became, and now he is leading the way of his fathers legacy! God bless the Hamed’s! Well done Aadam!”. The clip showed Naz’s son talking about different aspects of his mental state after the match and his plans for the future. But it was the ending sequence of the clip that truly stood out.

The reference was to the Irishman’s fiery declaration that came 9 years ago. After defeating Diego Brandão at UFC Fight Night 46, McGregor delivered what could be one of his most iconic speeches. The fight saw ‘Notorious’ take out the Brazilian in the first round by TKO. After securing the victory in Dublin, ‘Notorious’ famously said, “I said it last year. We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over”. The line has since then resonated with fans worldwide and has clearly made its way into the boxing world as well.
