Ian Garry is a rising star in the UFC with hot blood. The spirit to prove something and fight someone big is something to be expected in young MMA stars like Garry. However, this young Irish star would refuse to fight one UFC fighter and it’s a little surprising.
The fighter’s idol is Conor McGregor, and he never wants to fight against him. Being from the same country certainly helps this idea of his. To add to it, Garry considers McGregor a complete inspiration. In doing so, the young fighter is sure to beat other greats who are not even in his sport. Here are some of his big claims.

The fighter is currently prepping to take down Vincent Luque at UFC 296. Having previously imitated McGregor’s taunt-walk in the cage before, Garry feels himself unstoppable at a 13-0 record. Now, he wants to add big names to his wins.
And these names do not belong in the MMA world. Much like his idol, Garry wants to take down a boxer. Like McGregor found a nemesis in Floyd Mayweather, Garry wants to find his opponent in Canelo Alvarez, the current reigning super-middleweight undisputed champion of the world.
“I would fight Canelo Alvarez tomorrow and I promise you I would beat him,” Garry said in an interview. “That’s not a joke. I promise you I will beat him. He’s 5ft9in, he wouldn’t be able to touch me. I’m 6ft3in. I’d throw a jab and he’d never beat me . . . I promise you now, if I put all my effort into boxing for eight weeks, I could beat Canelo Alvarez. That’s a promise!”
While dropping big claims on Alvarez, Garry also shared his feelings about McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ has previously fought in the welterweight division and while his return to it seems illusive, it’s not an impossibility. However, Garry was certain that he would never fight McGregor. Why? Well, he is too special a fighter for him to do so.

Garry and McGregor are both from Ireland. In the same conversation, Garry noted that he had no interest nor desire to take down McGregor. This was interesting as the claim came from a spirit of patriotism and respect for the fighter.
“If I had a fight against Conor McGregor, I would cheer for Conor McGregor,” Garry said. “I will absolutely sit here and say I will fight any man on the planet, except that man . . . I have love and respect for everything that man has done for my country, but also for me. The inspiration that man gave me, a fight against him doesn’t interest me in any way, shape, or form.”

So it’s a clear path for Garry. Fight Alvarez but not Conor McGregor. Such is the persona of the Irishman that some fighters would literally change their sport before fighting him. Some consider it pure class on Garry’s behalf while other fans believe it’s just overzealous celebrity worship. Either way, it looks like Alvarez should look out before Garry preps up for boxing and pulls a Francis Ngannou on him. Which fighter would you be rooting for if that boxing match ever happened?
