Nate Diaz just competed in his first-ever professional boxing match against Jake Paul. Although he didn’t get the result he would have hoped for, the 38-year-old put on an incredible performance in Dallas. Moreover, the Stockton native later revealed during an interview that he came into the fight with an injury.

Notably, Paul defeated Diaz via a unanimous decision victory to get back to winning ways following a defeat to Tommy Fury earlier this year. However, the former UFC fighter won the respect of the fans after lasting the entire 10 rounds. But according to him, he wasn’t at his percent coming into the fight. Let’s see what more he had to say.

After the fight, Nate Diaz answered questions about his performance in his first-ever boxing match. Diaz didn’t know what to make of it yet since he’d just finished the fight. He said, “It just happened. I don’t really know how to feel about it yet.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that he suffered an injury while training in the lead-up to the match. That may have been an enormous factor in the fight. Diaz further added, “Things could have been better, and in camp, I hurt my arm a little bit.” The implication here seems to be that he was hoping to perform better than he did in his first boxing match.

The Stockton native wanted to have trained a little better

Nate Diaz was hesitant to throw straight punches at Jake Paul during the fight. Moreover, he didn’t want to stay out of his opponent’s reach, but his injury forced him to use those tactics, which didn’t play in his favor. He said, “I didn’t want to throw the straight punches and stay on the outside because I f***ed my arm up.”

In addition to that, Diaz wished to have had the time to train a little more. He only trained a few weeks, and that really didn’t help his case against a much more experienced Jake Paul. “I wish I could have trained a little better in the last few weeks, last month,” said the Stockton native. However, despite this outpouring of emotions in the press conference, everyone didn’t have kind words for the ‘Stockton Brawler.’

Celebs and other fighters were not too convinced

Nate Diaz’s boxing display against Jake Paul garnered significant criticism from fellow fighters and notable figures, who believed he was clearly surpassed, outperformed, and outmaneuvered by the YouTube sensation.

Mike Tyson, the former Heavyweight boxing champion and mentor to Jake Paul, tweeted, “He’s going to save boxing”.

Snoop Dogg, rapper, and celebrity commentator for Paul’s fights, tweeted: “Jake Paul is the truth. He beat Nate Diaz fair and square. Respect to both fighters for putting on a show. #PaulDiaz”

Two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor expressed his disdain for the fight by choosing to focus on the ring girl instead of the fight by tweeting, “Fuck this, sweetie, what’s up”

While most of the comments were not in favor of Diaz, some, such as the one by current Bellator champion  Cris Cyborg, were in his favor. She tweeted, “NDA wins by 10th round Guillotine! @NateDiaz209 for life.”

Regardless of how the fight went, Nate Diaz proved why he is one of the best sports athletes ever. Most UFC fighters fight for five rounds. But the former UFC fighter isn’t an average MMA fighter. He went 10 rounds and didn’t get knocked out. There might be a chance that he may return to the squared circle once again.
