Nate Diaz drops another bombshell! We’re less than a week away from Jake Paul and UFC veteran Nate Diaz’s boxing clash at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas. Though the hype around the fight seemed to be fading away, the Youtuber-turned-boxer’s VADA test results rejuvenated the excitement around the clash.

Now, adding more spice into the mix, the former UFC champ is back with another controversial statement. In a recent interview, Diaz sat down with a notable journalist to reflect on his journey in the sport. But his candid yet amusing remark on boxing drew all the spotlight.

In an interview with ESPN MMA’s Marc Raimondi, the duo delved into Diaz’s thoughts about his upcoming boxing debut bout against Paul. As the discussion progressed, the conversation steered towards the number of rounds in the forthcoming fight. The interviewer kicked off the conversation, asking, “…what is the deal with the rounds situation?”

Diaz, known for his no-nonsense attitude, expressed his indifference to the rounds. He remarked, “I don’t really care about the rounds. I’d rather [have] less rounds, but – it’s just funny to see him make a deal over it anyway…” The TUF 5 winner’s laid-back approach raised eyebrows – especially given the significance of round numbers in boxing matches.

When Raimondi hinted that this was Diaz’s attempt at “a little gamesmanship,” the UFC veteran simply dismissed any such notions. In the same vein, he argued, “No, I didn’t care. It was just funny because I was like why the 8 rounds – he just fought it around a bunch of times…”

But that’s not all! Diaz made a staggering statement just after these words were uttered. In a shock to many, including Raimondi himself, the TUF 5 winner declared, “What’s the rules – I don’t really even know the rules for boxing… I think Championship fights are 10 rounds and 12 rounds…”

Moreover, revealing why he agreed to a ten-round fight, the UFC veteran gave an amusing reply. He stated, “I wasn’t sure – so, I was like, ‘Well, let’s do more rounds.’ It was just a little thought [that] I didn’t really care about…”
