Is Mike Tyson truly ready for Jake Paul, or is this fight a disaster waiting to happen?

Jake Paul could very well say goodbye to his boxing endeavor when he steps inside the squared circle with the ferocious Mike Tyson. Or will he? Just days before the fight, concerns started to grow among fans and pundits of combat sports, leading them to question the lack of training footage from ‘Iron Mike’s camp. For UFC veteran Chael Sonnen, he believes there’s something not right with Tyson.

Well, Mike Tyson isn’t staying as low profile as some would assume because he has shared some snippets from his training for the boxing return on Netflix. But those videos have also raised questions among fans because they only showed ‘Iron Mike’ hitting the pads and doing some cardio workouts. However, Chael Sonnen isn’t convinced, and he believes that Tyson doesn’t even have a team to train with, given that he’s got just over a week’s time for the Jake Paul clash.

Before the fight was rescheduled, videos of Mike Tyson training with his coach, Rafael Cordeiro, were a routine affair. In fact, Cordeiro held his head high when he proclaimed, “Mike is going to step in the ring as the old Mike Tyson… First-round KO.” This is unlike now when Chael Sonnen feels completely disillusioned. On his YouTube channel, Sonnen fired up speculation for a good 10 minutes on Wednesday.

With the anticipation for the re-scheduled November 15 fight higher than ever, Sonnen believes Netflix has done a pretty good job promoting it so far. But it could be better. “This fight is turning into something. I’m only offering to you what could’ve made it better. A really important ingredient… we either hear from training partners or we don’t. The problem with the ‘don’t’ [is that] whenever you’re doing an event like this, there’s a number of reasons why promoters go out of business.”

Taking the example of the UFC and how every fight has something at stake, the former MMA fighter continued, One of them – and it’s one problem that Dana White has never had – [is that] the match is exciting. The No. 1 rule is that you’ve got to go out and try to win. These athletes are here to perform and entertain… but you’ll never hear that with a boxing promoter.”

When the fight was initially announced, most fans weren’t too convinced about it being a real bout, considering the big paycheck to go along with it. But once Netflix announced that it would be a professional fight – as Sonnen suggested – the fight started “turning into something.” But what may end up hurting Netflix is the silence from Tyson’s side.

“If Mike Tyson, who doesn’t have a single trainer speaking to the media saying, ‘I’m working with him.’ [He] does not have a single workout partner, does not have a gym that has set times, the way that we understand, he’s not even working out with a team. He’s got a studio that’s got a heavy bag. I could have that wrong. I am telling you, to our understanding, because nobody’s spoken up.”

Furthermore, Sonnen also issued a warning to the promoters, who often look past these kinds of problems. If Mike Tyson, according to the 47-year-old, gets easily dispatched by the YouTuber-turned-boxer, people may lose interest in such bouts in the future. “If Tyson goes out there and he gets mauled by Jake, you’re going to have a whole bunch of fans that are very p-ssed off the next time you try to pull a caper,” Sonnen added. According to him, it’s better to set expectations rather than go into the fight expecting something great (and, possibly, not getting it).

“If you show us that he’s training… and, by the way, [if] he doesn’t look good, you’re much better off. We will predict that he’s gonna get stomped. We’ll cross our fingers and hope he doesn’t. We will tune in either way. But we won’t leave angry…” With just about a week to go before Tyson and Paul are face-to-face inside the squared circle, Sonnen believes it isn’t too late. They need to get a camera in there; they need to get somebody in from of the Mike we know to vouch.”

Recently, though, Mike Tyson raised some eyebrows with another quick snippet from his training session. He amazed fans with his intensity and, most of all, his insane punching power.

Despite concerns, Mike Tyson looks to be ready for Jake Paul

Despite many fighters showing hesitance to watch Mike Tyson fight a guy in his 20s, the boxing icon seems to be in the driver’s seat from what we’ve seen from him so far. The 31-year gap between him and Jake Paul has been a much-talked-about issue about the fight, but at 58 years old, the Fort Greene native still seems to have the power that made him the most ferocious fighter in history, evident from a video he shared on social media.

One of his coaches shared a few insights about the training, and through his comments, it appears that there’s not much to worry about when it comes to Mike Tyson. “Movement’s great, agility’s great. Conditioning is amazing, power’s unbelievable,” he stated. Do you believe this to be the truth, or is Tyson’s so-called trying to hide a bigger issue that lies underneath?
