Ice Cube believes Mike Tyson was done with his opponents before the bell rung. The legendary boxer brought carnage and violence with his lethal punches, but it was this mindset that separated him from other boxers. The statement still holds water even after almost two decades since ‘Iron Mike’ hung up his professional gloves. He stands in contrast with the other boxers, including the modern great Floyd Mayweather Jr., who wants to look “pretty” coming in the fight.
The rapper heaped praises on the 57-year-old when he sat down with Joe Rogan on his popular podcast and dived deeper into the boxing world. He also touched upon a minute detail of ‘Money’ as the boxer always said thank you when someone tapped him on his walkouts to the ring. The UFC commentator then pointed out how Mayweather “lost 152 pounds, got smaller, and dehydrated”. Multiple boxers have replicated the same strategy since then. Further, the famed podcaster mentioned how once Daniel Cormier said one got the rub when they fight for titles. But “nobody got the rub” in the Tyson era.

The color commentator told the actor in Ep. #2004, “During the Tyson era, nobody got the rub. He got in there and you are like, ‘F*ck this’.”
The guest then listed the psychological advantages Tyson had. The rest of the fighters paid attention to the accessories, while Tyson, as pointed out by the standup comic, had a towel with a hole in it. Even Mayweather Jr. couldn’t resist the charm of accessories and grand walkouts.
The Hollywood star said, “I mean, Tyson has so many psychological advantages, you know. Everybody else, you know, ‘give me the premium roll, put the Sat*n on the roll, I have to have flairs coming from my tassels, you know. I gonna look pretty coming in here’. Floyd coming in with a gladiator style.”
After Rogan recalled the iconic no-nonsense walkout of Tyson, the songwriter continued, “And no socks on. He is here for none of that. He [is] just here to whoop your as*. He psychologically beat a lot of people before he even landed that fatal punch.”

Rogan then expressed even a loss against Buster Douglas didn’t take him down. While some fighters lose their aura of invincibility after a knockout loss, “Michael was still there”.
Since his retirement, Tyson has appeared multiple times on AEW and in movies, and is currently the host of a podcast, ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’.
