Francis Ngannou has wanted to fight Tyson Fury since he was in the UFC. Not just because ‘The Predator’ likes boxing, but for the simple reason that a boxing match between the two will pay him many times any amount he was getting in the UFC, or will get in the PFL in the near future. Conor McGregor, the biggest and highest-paid superstar in the history of the MMA got his biggest paycheck for boxing the legendary Floyd Mayweather.

Analysts and fans, however, give the former UFC heavyweight champion a very slim chance against Fury. The most obvious critique is that Francis will fight one of the two best heavyweights in the world in his first boxing match. However, Sean Strickland’s coach Eric Nickcick, who is also part of Ngannou’s camp for Fury, revealed how, contrary to expert opinion, the 36-year-old can surprise Fury.

Nicksick, speaking to ‘Submission Radio’ talked about Ngannou sparring against heavyweight boxer Joe Joyce. Nicksick revealed how Ngannou was able to surprise Joyce with a powerful overhand left after he started to switch his stance from orthodox to southpaw in the course of the bout.

“That’s something that you know we boxed Joe Joyce, you know. Francis went in, this is about three years ago, maybe you know. Francis, the first couple rounds was just was boxing and trying to, you know, outbox Joe Joyce and it got to the point where I said, hey man let’s get in some of your switch crosses, switch uppercut, switch this, switch that.

Just try to play with your footwork a little bit and then use the corner posts of the boxing ring to funnel him into that power. And you know he did that. He was Orthodox, and you know, obviously everybody’s going to circle away from the power hand side.

So Francis threw a big right hand and Joe circled away and Francis rolled through to Southpaw and threw a big left overhand. And it connected and landed and Joe was like whoa what was that? Like, you know, hit him but he didn’t expect it to come from that angle,” he told Submission Radio.

He expressed confidence that a similar misdirection tactic would prove difficult for ‘The Gypsy King’. Especially when paired with Ngannou’s immense strength and punching power, plus his willingness to stand and exchange in the pocket with Fury. But, the rules and conditions of the fight do clearly favor Fury.

Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury – when, where, and why?

Francis Ngannou will face Tyson Fury in a boxing match on October 28 in Saudi Arabia under the official Queensberry Rules of boxing. The fight will be a ten-round affair, complete with three ring-side judges who will score each round out of ten. Fury, the current WBC and lineal heavyweight champion of the world, will not be putting his title on the line. They will fight for bragging rights to determine who the ‘Baddest Man in the World’ is. The hype for a Ngannou- Fury contest started building after the Brit called him out from the ring following his victory over Dillian Whyte last year after their back-and-forth

The upcoming fight between Fury and Ngannou is seen as another validation of the Cameroonian’s decision to leave the UFC over issues of fighter pay, health insurance, and personal sponsorships after his contract expired earlier this year. However, to go to another sport and beat the world champion seems like an uphill task. However, Ngannou has a tendency to prevail against all odds. And few will be surprised if the Cameroonian who used to work in a sand mine as a child, then crossed a continent and an ocean to become the UFC heavyweight champion actually pulls it off.
