The current WBC champ Tyson Fury has been a dominant figure in the sport in the last few years. His last fight was against former UFC HW champ Francis Ngannou, which he won by a split decision. While he may have got the win, many fans and pros argue the scales should have tipped Ngannou’s way. However, it seems that in light of this recent controversy, another controversial win for Fury has been brought to the attention of the public, thanks to UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

Former boxing champ Deontay Wilder has faced Tyson Fury thrice in his career. To date, this trilogy remains one of combat sports’ most heated rivalries. Statistically, Fury had the upper hand, since he won 2 out of the 3 fights that the two boxing giants have had between them. However, on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Wilder had made some interesting counters that might give the boxing fans a different perspective.

On Episode #51 of The Joe Rogan Experience MMA show, the UFC commentator was in the company of the former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. During that episode, Wilder and Rogan were seen discussing the first fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, which Wilder had won. However, it seems that there is more to that victory, as was revealed by Wilder in the episode.

In the beginning, Rogan was all praises for Wilder and made his own analysis of what gave Wilder the edge over other boxers. “In the 12th round… first of all, I don’t know how the f**k he got up. I do not understand. I remember watching it on TV. I’m like, wow he knocked him out in the 12th round. That is crazy! That is crazy,”” he then said, remembering the epic moment where the Gypsy King got back up on his feet, within the count, after being rocked really hard by Wilder.

And then of course, you played that thing on your Instagram, which basically shows that you did knock him out,” pointed out Rogan. To this Wilder said, “I definitely knocked him out.” The 12th round saw Wilder drop Fury to the mat with a big left. However, Fury was back on his feet before the referee could count to 10. “He definitely didn’t get up in time.“, chimed in Rogan. Wilder agreed with him saying, “Right. He definitely didn’t. You know…“.

However, before he could continue, Rogan said, “It was his job to get up in 10. It’s not his job to know exactly when 10 seconds is.“. Wilder seemed to be of the same opinion as he said, “Correct. Correct. No, Jack Reiss definitely had delays on that count. I [inaudible] seen that fight like, six times…” pointed out Wilder, saying that boxing referee Jack Reiss might have been the reason that the fight ended in a draw that night.

Since the fight ended in a draw, Wilder retained his WBC title and walked away a champ. However, that is where it all began for Fury, as he would go on to establish himself as the greatest Heavyweight boxer in modern boxing.

Tyson Fury has come out and said that Wilder was his most formidable opponent of all time. The first time the two Heavyweights fought, Wilder was the champ. The boxing bout took place in 2018, where the fight ended in a draw. However, Fury showed heart as he got back up after an explosive left from Wilder that could have knocked out some of the best fighters in the game.

Soon after that, in 2020, Wilder and Fury fought again. This time, the outcome was different. Fury brought the heat to Wilder in this one and knocked him down twice throughout the fight. However, Wilder’s team thought that Wilder had endured enough and in the 7th round, threw in the towel. Fury was crowned the new WBC champ and there was no looking back.
