The life of an MMA fighter might be considered a bed of thorns. Despite the lucrative sums of money earned by elite fighters, the amount of punishment they take while competing in a bout may be unimaginable to others. There are a few weapons in combat sports whose lethality is way more than the others. Most UFC fans know that the promotion’s noted color commentator, Joe Rogan, is also a former martial artist. On an episode of his coveted podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the ’55-year-old’ broke down one of the deadliest weapons in striking-based martial arts.

The famed UFC Hall of Famer and actor, Bas Rutten, also joined Rogan for the episode, which made the conversation way more interactive. The duo talked about numerous other issues, including one of the most devastating strikes in combat sports, the liver shot. Rogan also mentioned that recently, even one of the noted current boxers had to kneel down and accept a knockout after a hard liver shot from his opponent.

Following that, numerous fans criticized the boxer viewing it as a lack of his commitment. But, Rogan, the former martial artist, knew exactly why the boxer chose to give up.

Joe Rogan realized the boxer’s condition and had a question for the critics

The boxer who Rogan talked about is none other than the famed former WBC Interim Lightweight Champion, Ryan Garcia. While numerous fans bashed him for giving up too easily in his last bout, Rogan and Rutten apparently backed him with their words. Amid a discussion about the most damaging strikes in combat sports, Rutten described how once he had narrowly escaped getting knocked out after a liver shot. This also drew Rogan into the conversation.

The ‘JRE host’ stated, The liver’s awful”. Rutten exclaimed, “It’s the worst”. It was at this moment that Rogan pulled up Garcia’s example to describe the lethality of liver shots. He stated, O My God! People were saying when Ryan Garcia went down against Tank Davis, and people saying like he quit”. Apparently, Rogan wasn’t pretty happy to see people questioning Garcia’s commitment.

He fired at all of Garcia’s critics with a question. Have you ever been hit there before?” asked the former martial artist. Evidently, he implied that the fans will never get to know what Garcia was going through at that point.

It may be agreed, the pain that made even Ryan Garcia accept a defeat despite looking okay, must have been excruciating.

What actually happened in the Ryan Garcia bout mentioned by Joe Rogan?

In his most recent bout, the ’24-year-old’ Garcia faced an untoward outcome. He suffered a devastating loss via KO against his famed opponent, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. It was a vicious liver shot in the seventh round of the bout, which had Garcia kneeling down and accepting a knockout even though it appeared that he could have easily gone on.

It was also Garcia’s first-ever professional loss, which came at his 24th professional boxing bout. This made Rogan’s argument even stronger. An undefeated record is of utmost importance to a fighter.

Also, a class apart boxer like Garcia will definitely go to his last limits to maintain his undefeated record. Hence, to Rogan, it was the critics’ lack of experience in absorbing liver shots that triggered such statements from them.
