The former UFC heavyweight champ has finally revealed interesting details on a possible fight with Tyson Fury. Talking to TMZ, the Cameroonian confirmed that there have been talks about a fight with Fury’s team while maintaining that he didn’t mind waiting till June or July. Read on to find out what the knockout artist revealed during the interview.
Francis Ngannou gives an update on talks with Tyson Fury’s team
After Tyson Fury came out with one of the wildest ideas in combat sports; to face Ngannou in a boxing match inside a cage with 4 oz gloves, which eventually was slammed by many, including Chael Sonnen, the Cameroonian has finally responded. In an interview with TMZ, the 36-year-old confirmed that he has had talks with Fury’s representatives.
“I’ve talked to somebody. Some of [Fury’s] advisors, but they’re working on a fight with Usyk in April. So, until then, he will not be free, but I’m trying to see if we can have an agreement before that fight.” stated Ngannou, pointing to Fury’s upcoming fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
‘The Predator’ also disclosed that a fight mid-year would be preferable, as he would have enough time to prepare.
“That will also give me some time to prepare for a boxing fight. I have no problem with that timeline. I hope will be sometime in June, July, which is doable. Let’s see,” however, he also continues to say that nothing is confirmed yet, “I think it’s too early to make a conclusion. It’s too early to say anything about it, but it’s definitely something that we’re looking into.”
Ngannou then even points out that fans are eager for him and ‘The Gypsy King’ to face even comparing it to Fury vs Anthony Joshua. “We’ve been talking about this fight for the past two years. I think at this point, the people are waiting for this fight and talking about this fight more than the Joshua fight.”

Fury had earlier proposed a hybrid boxing match with Ngannou
As reported earlier, Tyson Fury in an interview had proposed the idea of facing Ngannou inside a cage. ‘The Gypsy King’, while calling him out, presented an offer that might have seemed bizarre to many. He proposed a fight under boxing rules with 4 oz gloves, with Mike Tyson as the referee. All inside a cage, by the way.
While Fury’s offer sounds like something right off a movie script, the revelation made by Ngannou in the TMZ interview does make things interesting. The knockout artist has previously displayed his interest in boxing and, being a free agent, it seems more possible now than ever that we might see him set inside the boxing ring for the first time.
