It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to label fighter’s pay as one of the most controversial and polarising topics in the MMA community. Over the years, UFC President Dana White has often found himself on the wrong side of this controversy. Many have been critical of the American promoter over his pay scheme amidst the rising profits of the company. One of them being Jake Paul.

The YouTuber turned boxer has been vocally critical of Dana White, going off on the promoter on several occasions over fighter compensation. Once again, the former Disney star expressed his dismay on the matter during the latest episode of his podcast BS w/ Jake Paul. This time he was also joined by former UFC star Jorge Masvidal. Paul alleges that White and the company do not pay the fighter’s substantial income. This is considering the fact that the company made 1.14 billion dollars in profits last year. According to Paul, the base of twelve thousand five hundred dollars is too low. This is considering the expenses that the fighter must endure, including gym fees, coaches, and medical care.

He also added the fact that the company pays a very small part of the profits to fighters, and big names like Conor McGregor take up the lion’s share in that. In Paul’s own words:

“My problem and I think a lot of people’s problem, comes from when the company’s now valued at 10 billion dollars. Fighters are, you know, only getting 12, 13, 14, 15 percent of that, and five percent of that’s Conor McGregor. So really, it’s a smaller percentage.”

This is not the first time that Junior Paul has gone over Dana White on the matter. ‘The Problem Child’ has criticized the UFC premier on many previous occasions. One of the most prominent ones came after the company’s troubled negotiations with Francis Ngannou.

Jorge Masvidal differs on the matter from Jake Paul

Unlike the show’s host, Jorge Masvidal has a slightly different say on the matter. If the former UFC star is to be believed, Dana White pays his entry-level fighters well compared to other combat sports like boxing. In ‘Gamebred’s opinion, Dana is a good businessman and takes care of the fighters well. Additionally, he appreciated his former promoter for allowing him to make some decent cash and garner a great following along the way.

The former BMF title winner’s 2019 run at welterweight is often credited to be one of the most exciting in the promotion’s history. The Florida native went on a 3-fight win streak, which includes his infamous knockout of Ben Askren. This made him one of the most hyped and viral fighters overnight. But despite this, Masvidal will go on to lose the next 4 fights in a row. Finally, the fighter bid adios to the sport following a decision loss to Gilbert Burns.
