Many people were wondering just why Jake Paul fought Mike Tyson last weekend. After all, competing against the 58-year-old ‘Iron Mike’, who is the most beloved man in the entire combat sports world was a lose-lose proposition for ‘The Problem Child.’ If he had failed, Paul would have lost whatever credibility he had earned. But even if he won (which he indeed did), he would have gotten no credit.
Instead, the Cleveland native would be hated even more (which indeed happened) for beating the beloved and severely compromised Tyson. But these people are perhaps forgetting one very important factor- money. But that is not the case with former UFC champion Henry Cejudo, who is delighted at how much money ‘The Problem Child’ is making.
“Jake Paul has become the fighter right now that everybody wants to fight. Because right now, he is the cash cow. He made $40 million just off of Netflix, and I’m not talking about it, there’s still going to be concessions, gate. He’s going to wind up maybe pulling anywhere between $50 to 60 million,” he said on his ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast.

Paul is reportedly set to earn $40 million for his bout against Tyson, though it’s unclear whether this figure includes his share of revenue from ticket sales, concessions, and other event earnings. Cejudo speculated that the $40 million might exclude those additional earnings. Meanwhile, Tyson is said to be pocketing $20 million for the bout, a figure that Cejudo commended, praising Paul for ensuring his opponents are well-compensated.
When I read anybody that fights Jake Paul, Jake Paul’s taking care of these dudes, but I appreciate that,” Cejudo added.

This is not very surprising since Paul has been quite vocal about the issues of fighter pay, especially in the UFC, and is detested by Dana White because of it. But ‘The Problem Child’, despite his unpopularity among fans, does walk the talk. He claimed to have taken a pay cut in his August 21 fight against Tyron Woodley to make sure the undercard fighters got paid relatively well. And Paul’s ability to attract eyeballs and big purses has made him a very hot commodity in the boxing world.
Dubois, Garcia callout Jake Paul as he eyes massive ‘Canelo’ fight

Did Jake Paul just prove money talks louder than respect in the boxing world?
Have an interesting take?
Foremost among the people who have called out Jake Paul since the Tyson fight are IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, and superstar boxer Ryan Garcia. Dubois, of course, has become the second or third biggest British boxing superstar after demolishing Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September this year.

Garcia, on the other hand, is also a notable figure in the world of boxing, with his April 2024 clash with Devin Haney being one of the most entertaining combat sports events in recent memory. Clearly, everyone and their mother, even the biggest boxing stars want to milk the cash cow that is Jake Paul.
But ‘The Problem Child’ has different plans. He wants to fight mega-star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. But not really for the Mexican’s three world championship belts. No. For a much bigger prize. “We’ll fight to really see who is the face [of boxing] because, after this event, I’m going to be claiming it,” Paul said. What do you think about Henry Cejudo’s thoughts about Jake Paul’s estimates for the Mike Tyson fight?
