Is Conor McGregor losing his touch by backing Dana White over Canelo Alvarez's $200 million claim?

A new rivalry appears to be brewing in the streets of combat sports as Conor McGregor has been pulling Canelo Alvarez‘s legs for his obnoxious demands from the boxing promotion. The boxing superstar is prepping himself to fight Edgar Berlanga’s fight, which is scheduled for the same date in the same city as UFC 306 on September 14. Nevertheless, the boxing star is looking past his current opponent and is expecting to clash against David Benavidez.

However, the amount he has asked for the fight is so obnoxious that even McGregor couldn’t resist but call him out. According to an insider, Alvarez has asked for a massive $200 million to fight Benavidez soon. When asked about the reasoning behind such a tall claim, ‘Canelo’ stated it is a high-risk, high-reward game.

“Obviously he’s a risk, he’s a great fighter. Plus he brings to the ring on fight night 25lbs more than me. It’s a risk but I don’t care. If the money’s right it can be tomorrow,” said Canelo Alvarez.

The former lightweight champion Conor McGregor took cognizance of the X post as he called out the super middleweight undisputed champion of the world for being a snowflake, “Canelo is a cornflake. He has about 300k buys in him. He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid. UFC NOCHE is going to run them from the strip. Sheik Turki was right moving on. CANELO DOESN’T SELL.”

Regardless of the obnoxious demands by Canelo Alvarez, fans have called out Conor McGregor for his unnecessary comments on the boxing legend.

Is Conor McGregor losing his touch by backing Dana White over Canelo Alvarez's $200 million claim?

Have an interesting take?

To make such a statement while being on a hiatus from the world of MMA for three years is in itself a hypocritical statement. Nevertheless, McGregor’s toe injury has derailed his comeback train. At the moment, it appears that the fighter might make an appearance at the end of the year. The hypocritical statement by ‘Notorious’ appears to have worked against him.

Interestingly, Donald Trump, in his recent statement has praised Khabib Nurmagomedov for his fight record and stated that he is his favorite fighter. This statement was made at an Adin Ross livestream. Well, as soon as the former president made the statement, Conor McGregor took to his X handle to write, “Campaign ending decision. A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (AMERICAN COMPANY) fighter? Wow. Abysmal.”  This was a huge development, because the US presidential elections are around the corner. A social media fan appears to have reminded why Trump made the statement.

The last time Conor McGregor won a fight was back in 2020 against Donald Cerrone. After that McGregor has been on a two-fight losing streak. His record stands at 1-3 in his last four fights and a combat sports enthusiast is not keen on the Irishman tooting his own horn while enduring a miserable streak.

Furthermore, a fan stated that Canelo Alvarez would basically knock out Conor McGregor if they fight at this moment.

Canelo Alvarez has a guaranteed purse of around  $10 million-$30 million. There’s very little information about the amount his boxing matches pull but the fact that he fights twice a year and generates a massive $110 million for himself is quite a statistic. His career earnings as of 2024 are around $500 million. It must be noted that he is the biggest star on the boxing stage as of now.
