It’s hard for UFC bantamweight former king Sean O’Malley to stay out of the spotlight, despite losing the title to Merab Dvalishvili last week at historic UFC 306. O’Malley has found his way to remain in the limelight, much like his idol, former UFC dual champion Conor McGregor. Following McGregor’s trail, O’Malley seems to have learned how to engage with fighters outside of MMA. This was evident earlier this summer when boxing sensation Ryan Garcia unexpectedly challenged him before his fight against Devin Haney, saying, “Bring that motherf***er on. I’ll beat his ass in MMA,” which hyped fans eager to see these two champions from different combat sports square off.

Regardless, that boxing fight never came to fruition, and its future has gone into limbo. Recently, Sean O’Malley made his move not towards Ryan Garcia, but towards his rival Devin Haney, when he explicitly challenged Haney for a face-off on his YouTube channel, claiming, “Devin Haney is a b**. If Devin Haney really wants to fight, I’ll put 1 million dollars on me vs. him—no time limit, and we can fight. MMA rules, or just a fight with no rules. You can f***ing eye poke me if you want. If you want to talk shit on Twitter, we can really, really actually fight.”

This response from Sean O’Malley is a direct reaction to Devin Haney‘s remarks. Last week, after O’Malley lost his first title defense to Merab Dvalishvili following a “lackluster” performance, Haney wasted no time mocking O’Malley, writing on X, “O’Malley b*tch a** lost…” O’Malley then shut down Haney with a decisive reply. However, this is not the first time O’Malley has engaged with someone from the boxing world; last year, he called out Gervonta Davis.

When Sean O’Malley called out Gervonta Davis

Sean O’Malley never wants to leave anything unturned when it comes to earning money and fame. With the intention to have days like this, he started his promotional journey to become the UFC champion. His dream was fulfilled last year when he knocked out former champion Aljamain Sterling, making him the king of the division. Riding high from that victory over a formidable opponent gave Sean O’Malley the wings he wants to use to fly even higher.

So, he decided to challenge WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, recognizing Davis’s popularity, which could generate millions in pay-per-view sales. O’Malley issued the challenge on his podcast, claiming, “I’m telling you that fight is going to happen. I would love to go out there and box him. I feel like it could happen sooner than later, but I also know that the UFC is down to get behind stuff like that if it’s big enough. With that performance, I think we’re getting close.”

With so many boxing fights lined up, O’Malley’s fans are still waiting to see when he will finish his boxing stint, which he started casually. What are your thoughts on Sean O’Malley’s random challenges to boxer Devin Haney? Do you believe Sean O’Malley actually wants to fight, or is he just fulfilling his promotional duties?
