The Jon JonesTyson Fury saga is still going on despite both fighters ceasing their back and forth on social media. A few weeks ago an old Joe Rogan podcast clip set off a series of events that has now become a multilayered subject of conversation in the combat sports community. Boxing heavyweight Tyson Fury took issue with a clip from ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ where Rogan claimed Jones would best Fury in a fight. Fury’s X-rated response to Rogan and Jones making a response of his own made headlines for a few days. Eventually, both fighters agreed that the other had the upper hand in their respective sport.

However, things did not end there. Despite Fury making it clear that he was not willing to step into the cage, Jones is now pursuing a fight against the Englishman. Further, Dana White, who previously condemned the idea of ‘gimmick fights’ is now open to Jones vs. Fury. The UFC heavyweight champion recently came out and claimed he would step into the ring if that is what it would take to fight Fury.

Amidst all this chaos, there is another piece in play that the fans did not forget- former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The Cameroonian signed a historic deal with PFL after his UFC exit earlier this year. His new contract allows him to pursue boxing before making his PFL debut next year. Unsurprisingly, Fury is a fight that ‘The Predator’ is eyeing as well. Therefore, fight fans had some thoughts of their own regarding Jones and White now favoring a Tyson Fury fight.

Fans react to Jon Jones calling for a fight against Tyson Fury

During a recent public appearance, Jon Jones said, “I would love it if Dana [White] could make that [Tyson Fury] fight happen. That’s one thing about the UFC, we always give the fans what they want to see. Tyson Fury is just such a magnificent opponent and it’d be awesome to make that fight happen. I’m up for it. I’d even be willing to box him. Let’s see what happens.”

While Jones sounded confident in his claims, fans did not appreciate the request. They had other fights that they wanted to see rather than a crossover bout between Fury and Jones.

Following are some of their reactions to the champion’s statements.

  • Dana and Jonny Bones being coconspirators to steal that Fury fight from Francis is a pure example of how petty Dana is.
  • I love Jones but we all know he can’t go more than 3 rounds of boxing with Fury. Jones is great in MMA but he’s not a prolific striker
  • Even in video games Tyson will never ever fight Jones anything besides boxing he won’t accept it
  • Jon forgot he can’t eyepoke with boxing gloves
  • Let’s do a boxing match then ufc match. See what both worlds feel like for both guys to understand the difference.
  • It is necessary for Tyson Fury to go to Dagestan and stay with Khabib for one year.
  • Does this not count as a gimmick fight according to dana?
  • An embarrassing attempt to take food from Francis plate.

Jones vs Ngannou and Ngannou vs Fury were two fights that gained a lot of traction at one point. Fans had high expectations for the 36-year-old Ngannou to face a returning Jones in a heavyweight clash between the Titans. Unfortunately, that was not meant to be.

Ngannou once even had a public face-off with Fury at an event, and both parties stated their interest in a boxing bout. With Ngannou out of the UFC, he has the freedom to pursue it. Only time will tell whether the fight will materialize.
