Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ hat was popular among his followers. While one may not think much of the hat’s color and font, it is closely related to fighting. The hat draws its connection to a Don King-promoted fight that took place years ago between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas. Don King’s name was also used by Conor McGregor who took a jibe at Tyson in 2017.

In a Tweet, sports business reporter Darren Rovell spoke of the hat’s connection to the bout between Tyson and Douglas. Apparently, the color and font of Trump’s hat drew inspiration from the hat Buster Douglas used after the boxer beat, Mike Tyson. Donald Trump was present for this bout and he sat next to promoter Don King.

DR wrote, “Donald Trump’s “Make America Great” hats didn’t come out of thin air. The color and font was used 31 years ago today by Buster Douglas after he beat Mike Tyson. Trump was there that night in Japan sitting next to promoter Don King.”

Mike Tyson fought a lot of bouts under the promotional banner of Don King. In 2018, when Mike Tyson picked Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor, the latter took a jab at Tyson by using a Don King reference.

Don King worked as Tyson’s promoter after the latter became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing aged 20. However, their relationship soured when King was accused of fleecing more than $100 million out of the champion.

In 2017, Mike Tyson, in an interview, said Conor McGregor would get knocked out by Floyd Mayweather. The former heavyweight powerhouse said, “McGregor is going to get killed boxing,” Tyson said. “I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?”

Tyson felt that Conor McGregor won’t stand a chance due to Mayweather’s experience and the nature of boxing. He added, “McConor put his dumba*s in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby. McConor can’t kick and grab and stuff so he won’t stand much of a chance.”
