There has always been a debate about how a boxer would do in an MMA fight, and while we have seen many MMA fighters inside the squared circle over the years, we haven’t seen that many boxers come over to compete inside an Octagon. While some ex-boxers, like Holly Holm, successfully transitioned into mixed martial arts, there were many, including former 3-weight boxing champ, James Toney, who could not prove themselves in MMA. Moreover, there are still several boxers who are hesitant to fight inside a cage, which includes Dmitry Bivol.

Dmitry Bivol, who defeated Artur Beterbiev over a week ago to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion, recently joined the aforementioned conversation about boxer vs MMA fighter involving Khabib Nurmagomedov. Like Bivol, who’s made his name for boxing, Khabib’s name is synonymous with mixed martial arts.

But would both of these fighters do in a “street fight” against each other? That’s what the interviewer wanted to know when he put the undisputed champion on the spot. Well, Dmitry Bivol doesn’t think he stands a chance against ‘The Eagle’, claiming that his form of fighting resembles nothing less than a scrap on the street.

“To be honest, MMA is closer to a street fight. No point of hiding it,” Dmitry Bivol told Duelbits. If you’re thinking that the undisputed champion is the only boxer afraid of getting into a scrap with an MMA fighter, you’d be wrong. Undefeated star Terence Crawford also had the same sentiment when asked about getting into a fight with an MMA fighter but inside the Octagon.

Citing that Muhammad Ali had a similar experience while fighting Antonio Inoki in the first-ever crossover fight, Terence Crawford emphasized the effectiveness of kicks. “Ain’t anybody about to be kicking me… Hey look, we could wrestle, we could fight, but the kicks? No. I don’t care… Man, them kicks are dangerous, bro. Especially, them kicks in the legs,” Crawford told Joe Rogan.

While we’re talking about Khabib Nurmagomedov, we already know he wreaked havoc inside the Octagon. But is there a possibility to see him fight in a boxing match? Well, his former coach doesn’t see that happening ever.

Khabib Nurmagomedov ‘can’t box’, claims Javier Mendez

After Conor McGregor made his boxing debut, people were curious to know if Khabib Nurmagomedov would follow suit after he became a top star in Dana White’s promotion. Well, ‘The Eagle’ did mention an interest in fighting Floyd Mayweather with an unusual rule – 11 rounds of boxing and 1 round of MMA. But Javier Mendez, in an interview a few months ago, revealed that Nurmagomedov doesn’t really have an itch for boxing, and even if he does decide to box, everything will be happening under the UFC’s control.

“He can’t box, nope, he can’t box. If he wants to come back [and box], he has to – the UFC has to give him permission. They have to let him do it, and of course, you know if they let him do it, they’ll do what they did with Conor [McGregor]. They’ll get a big chunk [of money] too. They’re [all about] business, it’s a business,” Team Khabib’s coach stated on his YouTube podcast.
