Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo finally happened and most fans had their wish fulfilled. The fight looked pretty one-sided on Alvarez’s end prompting the judges as well as the fans to call him dominant in the match. This opinion is shared by even other professional fighters around the combat sports world. One of them is from the UFC’s welterweight division.

Once Charlo lost the fight, Belal Muhammad, a teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, had things to say. While some lauded Alvarez’s brilliant performance, others just pulled down Charlo for not living up to expectations. Twitter went especially wild with many fans saying a lot of things. Here’s what happened during the fight and how Muhammad reacted to it.

The fight started off a little bit slow with both the fighters analyzing their opponent in the beginning. In the first round, the two boxers were only able to land one punch each. However, the pacing was quickly upped by Alvarez in the second round. Several punches to the body looked like they hurt Charlo badly. It soon became clear who the potential winner was.

Tons of fans from both fandoms approached and agreed to Muhammad’s opinion. The fighter is currently sitting at #3 on the UFC welterweight rankings. For him, it’s not difficult to tell who’s fighting well and who isn’t. Canelo would go on to win via unanimous decision. The scores for both the fighters weren’t even in the vicinity of one another (119-108, 118-109, 118-109).

“Nobody can beat this Canelo,” said the winner in the post-fight interview. And he was correct too, at least for this one fight. Alvarez landed about 78 powerful punches and was successful in his strikes 134 times. On the other hand, Charlo could manage to connect only 71 punches and they still didn’t wobble Alvarez. “I think he never did something to win,” Alvarez said later on. And clearly, Muhammad agrees with him completely.

Apart from Alvarez securing the win, an upset in the co-main event made the T-Mobile Arena get filled with boos. This is when Jesus Ramos was defeated via unanimous decision. He went up against Erickson Lubin who ended up rattling him enough for the judges to be convinced. However, fans were not very happy with how the fight ended. A majority felt that the win should have gone to Ramos.

A similar scenario does not follow when it comes to Alvarez vs. Charlo. While the Ramos fight could have been confusing because a lot of blows were exchanged at great frequency, the same doesn’t stand for Alvarez’s win. For Ramos to win would have meant he had a good decisive advantage over Lupin but that did not happen.
