Nate Diaz vs Jake Paul – the MMA-Boxing crossover bout between the two has the entire MMA community buzzing. Many UFC veterans and even Boxing gurus have given their take on who they believe could come out on top. While Chael Sonnen sides with the ex-UFC fighter, there are still many who doubt that Diaz will be able to make a comeback. And that too – in a sport that he’s never professionally fought in.

Now, adding fuel to the fire is former UFC champ Khabib Nurmagomedov’s coach – Javier Mendez. In a recent podcast interview, the legendary coach broke the silence and gave his two cents on the face-off. And what Mendez says resonates with many’s popular opinion. What’s more – Khabib’s coach has a warning for the Youtuber-turned-boxer. So, what does Javier have to say? Let’s find out.

Ever since the boxing bout was confirmed for August 5, there have been some wild rumors and declarations flowing around. Jake Paul himself seems too excited for his own good, chiming in with occasional jibes at the UFC veteran.

What’s even more interesting is that Diaz, who usually doesn’t take any liking to such verbal jabs, has stayed rather quiet. His usual trash-talking and barbs have seemingly just vanished from his character. In the same vein, Mendez thinks that there might be a huge upset in the making – if Nate is not brought down by Paul in the early rounds of the 10-round boxing clash.

In a recent Javier Mendez Podcast interview, Khabib’s coach broke down the caliber of both Nate and Jake. Right from the start, Mendez asserted that for an accurate prediction of the outcome of the face-off, one needs to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of both fighters.

Reflecting on his MMA coaching experience, the coach shares some valuable insights into the fighters’ skills. Looks like Mendez’s reasoning coincides with what Sonnen thinks about the bout and Nate’s chances. The 52-year-old coach admitted that Jake Paul has an upper hand on Diaz, when it comes to youth, size, and strength. He reasoned, “Basically, with Jake Paul, you look at his advantages – youth, size is on his [side]. Age is on his side, strength is on his side. Size is on his side because he’s a bigger guy – so you got that.”

But wait – that’s not all! Even if Paul has an advantage over Diaz in these areas, Mendez seems to suggest that it might not be enough for a decisive advantage over a seasoned UFC veteran. We have all seen Nate Diaz get up over and over again, even in the death rounds of a fight. On a similar line of argument, Mendez believes, “But as far as boxing experience – he[Jake] doesn’t have nowhere near the experience Nate does. Nate’s been boxing for a long time.”

Moreover, Khabib’s coach also flagged a warning to the Youtuber-turned-boxer. In a bold statement that has sent fans into a frenzy, the 52-year-old declared, “if Jake cannot finish him…he could be in trouble. Nate Diaz is known to drown you – the longer the fight goes, the more it favors Nate, and I’m gonna agree – I favor Nate too.” With this remark, Mendez cements his support in Diaz’s corner.
