A lot has been made of Nate Diaz and the announcement of his boxing bout against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. While there’s no doubt that it will draw massive numbers, a recent statement by a former UFC champ suggests that it could be much bigger than what fans initially assumed.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel, this former fighter, despite acknowledging the fact that Diaz has a tough task in hand, also expressed that the Stockton native could end up receiving the biggest paycheck of his career. What makes this statement intriguing is that Diaz already has a couple of the biggest PPVs already under his belt. His two fights against Conor McGregor in UFC 196 and UFC 202 still stand among some of the highest-selling pay-per-views to date. Naturally, the question here that arises is whether the showdown between Paul and Diaz on August 5 could possibly break his earlier records.

Former two-division champ Daniel Cormier took to his YouTube channel to address the fight between Diaz and Paul and gave it a breakdown from a fighter’s perspective. While pointing out that Paul chose to fight Diaz despite having a rematch clause with Tommy Fury, Cormier happened to chime in about the payday involved in the fight as well.

“Jake had a rematch clause but instead of using the rematch clause, he goes and he fights Nate Diaz.” He said. “Now I believe this will be the biggest payday of Nate Diaz’s career and I know Nate has made a lot of money in the UFC.”

Considering the fact that the former UFC lightweight does have a loyal fan base, Cormier’s statement could end up coming true. Also, add to that Jake Paul’s audience and supporters, and we might just have a massive payday in store for both fighters here.

But will it end up breaking the records set by Diaz and McGregor is a question that’s up for debate. As per reports online, the 37-year-old’s fights with the Irishman still stand among the highest PPV sales in combat sports. So naturally, to go beyond that would require a special event, and a boxing bout between Diaz and Jake Paul could turn out exactly to be that.

Daniel Cormier on Diaz’s chances against Paul

Speaking of the fight itself, Cormier pointed out the challenges that the younger Paul brother would pose for the MMA fighter.

“Jake’s gonna be big for Diaz and Jake also is improving as a boxer, but Jake can also hit Nate and that’s the worry. Nate is the guy that does get hit because Nate’s tough,” he stated, pointing out Paul’s experiences as a boxer over the past few years.
