Dana White expressed his interest in booking a fight between Jon Jones and Tyson Fury following their heated exchange on social media. However, ‘The Gypsy King’ has shown no interest in fighting. UFC legend Chael Sonnen is surprised by the 33-0 boxer ignoring such a big-money fight.
When Joe Rogan made the statement about putting his chips on Jon Jones to win if the UFC heavyweight champion ever found himself locked in a room with Tyson Fury, a whole new idea of a crossover boxing fight emerged. The fight between Jon Jones and Tyson Fury has money written all over it. Given how Conor McGregor‘s fight against Floyd Mayweather was a box-office success, there is no doubt that this fight will generate a considerable amount of hype. Despite the possibilities, Chael Sonnen is surprised to see Fury snubbing this huge opportunity.
‘The Gypsy King’ wanted nothing to do with an MMA fight, but Jon Jones even agreed to fight inside the squared circle. Sonnen said, “You have Jon Jones, who said he’ll box. You have a promoter who said, ‘We’ll pay you anything.'”
Chael Sonnen questioned where Tyson Fury’s promoters Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum were given that Dana White is backing Jon Jones as a promoter to set up this supposed dream fight. The UFC president loves the idea of a Jones vs. Fury fight. He added, “Tyson doesn’t have those things. Where was Eddie Hearn? Where was Bob Arum.?”
‘The American Gangster’ wonders if Fury’s promoters don’t want to back their biggest draw
Chael Sonnen doesn’t have the proper information regarding ‘The Gypsy King’s promoters. He said, “I don’t have the foggiest idea who promotes these kids.” However, the most important thing he wanted to find out was the reason behind their negligence in this big-money fight with Jon Jones.
Sonnen pondered, “You don’t have a promoter with some distribution, some money, some cameras [and] some contracts that’s willing to back the biggest draw that they have in a match that he most certainly should win?” Despite the fact that Tyson Fury has one of the biggest drawing powers in combat sports, the UFC legend is baffled to see that his team is trying to ignore a fight that has the potential to be a huge financial success. “That’s a surprise to me,” said Chael Sonnen.
