Despite his background in acting, Michael Jai White is well-respected in the fighting community for his understanding of combat sports. Recently, he shared his thoughts on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather during an interview with ‘djvlad’.
Undoubtedly, Floyd Mayweather is the most controversial and polarizing figure in the world of combat sports. He has not stepped into the boxing ring professionally since his bout against Conor McGregor in 2017. At the age of 46, many believe Mayweather‘s best days as a boxer are behind him. However, White holds a different opinion.

During the interview, White expressed his admiration for Mayweather‘s boxing prowess and intellectual approach to the sport. He emphasized Mayweather‘s psychological advantage over his opponents, comparing it to a game of chess versus checkers. According to White, Mayweather‘s ability to outthink and outmaneuver his opponents sets him apart.
“If there’s anybody who could still fight and win it’s that guy because it’s the intellect to me. He is so far ahead of everybody just psychologically! It’s just like he’s playing chess and other people are playing checkers.”

White further elaborated that Mayweather‘s superior thinking and strategy remain intact, and he does not believe that aspect of Mayweather‘s skill set diminishes with time. Despite the natural effects of aging on an athlete’s performance, White expressed confidence in Mayweather‘s ability to defeat almost anyone in the ring.
“That portion of Mayweather, I don’t think that part diminishes you know! Unless you know, people get old after some time and all of a sudden it’s like oh things have changed. I think he could beat pretty much anybody out there.”
Floyd Mayweather’s next boxing bout
On June 11, Floyd Mayweather will face the grandson of former American crime lord John Gotti in a return to exhibition boxing. For Mayweather, this will be his seventh match of this type. With victories over Deji Olatunji, Mikuru Asakura, and Tenshin Nasukawa, he is now 3-0 in scored exhibitions.

On the other hand, Gotti has expertise in both mixed martial arts and professional boxing. He has a record of 5-1 in mixed martial arts, with his most recent loss coming against Nick Alley in October 2020 by unanimous decision. Given that Mayweather and Gotti come from separate but well-known lineages, the event will be dubbed ‘Last Name Matter’.
