To say Jake Paul’s rise in the boxing world is stellar would be a bit of an overstatement. The Youtuber-turned-boxer made quite the name for himself with wins over Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, and Ben Askren – out-of-prime or retired MMA fighters. ‘The Problem Child’ lost his bout to Tommy Fury, who many regarded as the only legitimate boxer that Paul faced.
However, to discount Paul’s skill entirely would be a misstep and this is certainly something to note as he prepares to face Mike Tyson next. The exhibition bout is slated to take place on November 15th at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Naturally, many are watching with raised eyebrows and bated breaths, wondering what to make of this spectacle. Among them is former UFC heavyweight and podcaster Brendan Schaub.
In an interview with The Schmo, ‘Big Brown’ questioned whether this fight elevates Jake Paul’s status as a boxer, “I don’t know what it does for Jake. Like, Jake, if you knock out the biggest legend in boxing of all time, do we think the hate goes up or down? You know, so I don’t get the upside for Jake in this.”

Schaub also pondered over the question of Paul losing to ‘Iron Mike’. Winning against a nearly 60-year-old legend wouldn’t rack up brownie points, but losing to one could severely dent Jake Paul’s prospects of ever being taken seriously as a boxer. Here’s the question the fighter-turned-podcaster posed, “What if he loses? What if the game plan is he loses to Mike Tyson? Show some respect”. Having said that, the former fighter doesn’t necessarily think Tyson can pull off the victory.

Brendan Schaub expresses worry for Mike Tyson
From the looks of it, Brendan Schaub isn’t giving Mike Tyson much of a chance against Jake Paul in his comeback bout. Furthermore, Schaub suggested that Paul can benefit from the negative PR from this whole phenomenon. ‘The Problem Child’ is no stranger to criticism, and continues to silence detractors whenever they count him out.
On being asked by The Schmo if Schaub thinks Tyson would floor Jake Paul. Here’s what the UFC veteran said, “Absolutely not. I’m just like – Is his team like, ‘How can we get people to hate Jake Paul more? Bring out Mike Tyson’. Like, I saw a video of him with a walking cane, dude. You know, I’ve worked with Mike. He’s an older dude. You see him hitting mitts and s**t, but Jake Paul’s a young cat. It’s a bad idea.”

For the unversed, Mike Tyson last stepped inside the ring for an exhibition match against former four-weight champion Roy Jones Jr. To no one’s surprise, Schaub described that bout as a ‘glorified sparring match’ that went the distance and ended in a draw. What Schaub is alluding to is the fact that Tyson struggled to win, let alone put away some closer to his age. How could ‘Iron Mike’ increase his winning prospects against someone like Jake Paul who is in his athletic prime?

On the other hand, fighting Tyson is like a double-edged sword for the young up-and-comer. Beating an old legend would surely garner him all the attention in the world but wouldn’t do him any favors to register his claim as a legitimate force.
