Dana White giving Mayweather credit—Is this a sign of respect or just a publicity stunt?

Floyd Mayweather, a legend in the boxing world without a doubt, surprisingly made his biggest boxing payday against MMA superstar Conor McGregor. Not only that, the multi-million-dollar fight was a feather in the cap of all the people involved in making it happen, and UFC CEO Dana White certainly checks that list. After almost 7 years, the 54-year-old promoter appeared very thankful to ‘Money’ for giving him that experience.

What happens when you take two of the biggest combat sports stars and put them in a fight? We never got to witness Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson in the same era, but we did get 21st legends, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. The journey that Dana White went from the buildup to that boxing match till the end of the fight, the UFC CEO claims is one of his biggest achievements ever.

Billed as ‘The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History’, Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather did not fail to entertain fight fans all over the world, although there are a few criticisms from various experts in combat sports. The highlight of the feud started with the press conferences, where Conor McGregor shined, and guess what? Dana White enjoyed the instance when ‘The Notorious’ absolutely shut down former Showtime boss, Stephen Espinoza.

“I can’t stand the guy from Showtime and when he [McGregor] walked up to him and called him ‘The Weasel’ in England… and then he looks at him [and McGregor’s like], ‘What’cha go do? You’re gonna do something? You sit there and shut your f***ing mouth. Everybody hates that guy,” Dana White told Shaquille O’Neal on the latter’s podcast. But that just wasn’t because the press conference took place in three countries across four cities, and the reception the fighters got was just gigantic.

The success that Dana White witnessed happened only because he believed Floyd Mayweather “did his thing.” And the UFC CEO claims that’s one of the greatest endeavors in his professional career as a fight promoter. “Everybody hates that guy and when Conor did that, I mean, every stop that we did it was something different and something new and Floyd is so brilliant… did his thing. It’s one of the highlights of my career being on that world tour. It was amazing,” Dana White added.

Floyd Mayweather definitely knows what it takes to make it in the combat sports world, both as an athlete and as a promoter. That’s why he showed a lot of love to Dana White during his feud with Conor McGregor, whom he’s apparently known for almost three decades. “Dana, I can never disrespect you. I’ve known you for 21 years. You’ve done a hell of a job with this company [UFC],” said Mayweather.

He’d even joke with Dana White, mocking Conor McGregor’s preference to wear suits after the Irishman took a jibe at ‘Money’ and called him a “12-year-old breakdancer b*tch.” Mayweather added, “Dana White, me and you got money. We know who got the money. We don’t got to wear suits. The real men that got money don’t got to wear suits.” It did make the UFC CEO chuckle when the 50-0 icon made that comment.

Floyd Mayweather and Dana White had great success with their business relationship in the past. Is there a chance it will happen again, a collaboration? Well, the UFC EO is fixated on his MMA promotional work for now, but there’s always a chance that anything can happen.
