Sean O’Malley‘s striking is sublime. While the former bantamweight champion did not have much of a (or indeed any) two weeks ago, as was proven in his most recent loss to Merab Dvalichvili on UFC 306 last weekend, his striking is second to none in the UFC, and thus the entire sport.
This is why no one was surprised to see him challenge superstar boxers like Ryan Garcia, and most recently, Devin Haney for boxing matches. In related news, Dana White has hinted that the UFC may be looking to get into the boxing business, promising “big announcements soon” on the subject, declaring “I’m in”.
And no one is happier about this than ‘Suga’ himself. In a recent episode of his ‘The Suga Show’ on YouTube, the former bantamweight champ said that he was excited about having his boxing dreams realized, and to do that under the aegis of the UFC.

“Dana White said they’ve never committed to boxing and when they commit to something, they go all in, ‘and I’m all in on boxing.’ Dude, that’s exciting! Me versus Merab in boxing [laughs]. I’m joking. But dude that’s f***ing exciting. I feel like I got five-six more good years in me. [And] if UFC is going to do something with boxing I would love to f***ing do that. That could be f***ing sick. Who knows?” O’Malley said.
However, the Montana native not only predictably admitted that he enjoyed MMA more, but surprisingly, what exactly he enjoyed about his chosen sport and why he had no respect for most boxers. “I love MMA though, I do love it. It sounds stupid, I love the wrestling aspect of MMA, I really do. I think it just makes fighting so much sweeter. Boxers are f***ing pu***es, dude,” he added. But UFC or no UFC, O’Malley’s boxing dreams do seem to be closer and closer to getting realized as he called out one of the world’s most popular boxers for bad-mouthing him.

Devin Haney confirms Sean O’Malley’s low opinion of boxers.
Sean O’Malley, never one to shy away from the spotlight or a bold wager, recently threw down an electrifying $1 million challenge to Devin Haney during a podcast. The 25-year-old was clearly still simmering after Haney took a jab at him on Twitter following his latest UFC loss. O’Malley’s response? If Haney wanted to test his toughness, he should step into O’Malley’s world—the cage. But in true “Suga” fashion, O’Malley knew Haney would dodge that gauntlet, claiming that boxers, in his eyes, play it safe when it comes to real fighting.

So, O’Malley switched gears. If Haney wouldn’t face him in MMA, then he’d offer a new prize—a million-dollar boxing challenge, with O’Malley wagering his own cash. The UFC bantamweight star, who hails from Montana, oozes confidence in his striking ability, and he’s more than ready to lace up the gloves against a fighter known for his quick fists. It’s a dance that O’Malley feels more than comfortable stepping into.

Haney, unsurprisingly, didn’t take the MMA bait but instead volleyed back with a challenge of his own—”Come box me, where we can make real money.” The former lightweight boxing champ is no stranger to the allure of big paydays, and the prospect of bringing O’Malley into the ring rather than the octagon seems to intrigue him.
If the stars align and Dana White allows it, O’Malley could find himself in the rare air of UFC fighters crossing over to the boxing world, something that hasn’t happened since Conor McGregor’s legendary bout with Floyd Mayweather in 2017. What would a showdown between O’Malley and Haney look like? The canvas is blank, the anticipation vivid—let your imagination run wild.
