Conor McGregor is known for his iconic ‘trash talk’ and playing mind games with his opponents before his fights. As such, according to UFC CEO Dana White, the Irishman is on par with legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali when comparing the “mental warfare” abilities of the two fighters. Ali made a name for himself for not just his performances inside the squared circle, but also his skill at getting inside his opponent’s head with pointed jabs and other antics outside the ring.

In his recent appearance on the ‘Flagrant’ podcast with comedian Andrew Schulz, the UFC boss was asked to share his thoughts on McGregor’s antics ahead of his upcoming clash against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. While he indicated that he isn’t entirely familiar with McGregor’s thought process, White made a bold comparison when he claimed that the Irishman and Muhammad Ali are both “level” if you look at how they dismantle their opponents before the fight has even started!

During the conversation with Andrew Schulz, Dana White was asked to share his thoughts on Conor McGregor’s recent activities and the possibility of them being a ploy to rattle Michael Chandler. Schulz inquired, “Speaking of Conor, is this marketing on Conor’s behalf? The video of him partying…?”

The video in question was recently shared by ‘The Notorious on social media and showed him enjoying himself in his own, ‘Black Forge Inn’. White, uncertain about McGregor’s intentions, responded by stating, “I don’t know, I honestly don’t know.”

Schulz then went on to speculate if the videos were a deliberate strategy by the Irishman to make Chandler underestimate McGregor’s seriousness about the fight. This led the UFC head honcho to exclaim, “I will tell you this and I don’t ever like to compare people to Muhammad Ali…… but, I don’t give a f**k what anybody says, Ali, Conor both level when it comes to mental warfare. The two best of all time when it comes to mental warfare. ”

This comparison is significant, considering Ali’s reputation for using psychological tactics to gain an edge over his opponents. Ali’s taunts, brash predictions, and charismatic demeanor often left his rivals mentally defeated before the fight even began, and the same tactics have been employed by McGregor as well with his ‘Mystic Mac’ predictions and relentless trash talk.

As McGregor prepares to face Michael Chandler, White’s comments serve as a reminder of the Irishman’s unique approach and there is no better example of the effectiveness of ‘The Notorious’s tactics than his dismantling of Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds back in 2015!

How McGregor managed to break Jose Aldo before their fight

Conor McGregor’s fight against Jose Aldo for the undisputed featherweight title at UFC 194 in 2015 is the perfect example of the Irishman’s mastery of psychological warfare and tactics to get inside his opponent’s head.

The UFC’s promotional tour for McGregor vs. Aldo was unprecedented in scope, spanning 12 days, eight cities, and five countries. This tour became the stage for McGregor’s psychological onslaught. He relentlessly taunted Aldo, making audacious claims like wanting to invade Aldo’s favelas and tearing up a picture of Aldo in front of his own fans. Each insult, each provocation, was designed to chip away at Aldo’s mental state.

On fight night, McGregor’s psychological warfare paid off spectacularly. Aldo, eager to silence his tormentor, charged at McGregor immediately. Within just 13 seconds, McGregor knocked Aldo out cold, delivering on his promise and cementing his status as a global superstar. This brief yet decisive fight highlighted the effectiveness of McGregor’s mind games, which had clearly disrupted Aldo’s focus and composure.

As UFC 303 draws closer, it remains to be seen whether Chandler will be able to endure the relentless onslaught of Conor McGregor’s ‘mental warfare’ or if he’ll suffer the same fate as Aldo. Do you agree with Dana White’s claims about Conor McGregor and Muhammad Ali being “level” in their mental warfare tactics?
