Claressa Shields has established herself as a top-tier fighter in the realm of combat sports by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion. She defeated previously unbeaten Danielle Perkins by unanimous decision on February 2nd to claim the throne as one of the modern GOATs of the sport. Shields (16-0, 3 KOs) secured the victory by dropping Perkins (5-1, 2 KOs) in the final seconds of the tenth and final round.
Shields won the bout by scores of 97-92, 99-90, and 100-89. Such was her dominance that many other fighters couldn’t help but praise the new boxing superstar. One such major name was that of Conor McGregor. Re-sharing the post by Claressa Shields on his Instagram story where she lands a massive punch on Perkings, the former UFC double champion wrote, “Certified 🐐 #BadWomanClaress.”
Even former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley took to the comments of the 29-year-old fighter to show some appreciation. The UFC legend simply wrote, “🔥🔥🔥” to signify how amazing her performance was in the much-anticipated bout.

After all, fans were unsure whether the match would even take place or be canceled. Shields injured her shoulder prior to the bout and was unable to lift her arm for three days. However, she fought through the pain to deliver one of the most exciting fights in the history of boxing that impressed many like Tyron Woodley and Conor McGregor as evidenced by his story. But now that the fight’s over, she’s going to get surgery to get her arm fixed.

She said post-fight, “I actually think I’m going to have to have surgery on my left arm. I tore my labrum last week, so the fight almost didn’t happen. I didn’t want to let Flint down, but I really couldn’t use my jab the way that I wanted to, but I did the best that I could. I iced it, I did therapy, and now I think I’m going to have shoulder surgery.” With such dedication, no wonder she had all the fan support behind her.

As soon as the new undisputed heavyweight champion uploaded the clip of her dominant performance on the internet, fans were quick to let her know how impressed they were by her skills. Her supporters couldn’t have enough of her right hand striking the face of Danielle Perkins as they wrote, “You almost twisted her head around🤦🏾♂️😂😂” “made her eyes roll back 👊🏾” and “hit that power off button.”

Another fan added that with a punch like that, Perkins would be looking for her chin for days. “Legend has it, Baby still looking for her chin” However, many other fans also showed some support for Perkins while praising Claressa Shields. One supporter shared that a shot like that could end any other fight, however, ‘Skippity Paps’ had one tough chin and she managed to not get knocked out cold, “That timing and accuracy 👏👏. Landing a shot that clean will almost always end it.”
A similar comment was written by another fan who believed a much smaller fighter would’ve definitely touched the grass. But seeing that it was Danielle Perkins, the 42-year-old took it like a veteran. “A smaller fighter would have hit the floor 👏” Well, it surely looks like fans loved how the much-anticipated fight turned out to be.
