Despite the confirmation of the match, the potential reason for the fight being hindered in the past came out, as Francis Ngannou’s manager Marquel Martin spoke extensively during a conversation on the MMAFightingonSBN YouTube channel. Martin addressed why the UFC was unwilling to schedule a fight between Ngannou and Fury due to Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s bout.

He addressed this by saying,  “I kinda feel like it was maybe like the Conor McGregor effect Like Conor made so much money from that boxing fight ( Against Mayweather) and maybe they didn’t want to do it again so maybe they had some business reasons um so it’s hard to like to pinpoint the exact reason. But from our side, It would have been easy.

The remarks make it clear why Conor McGregor’s $130 Million earnings  served as a deterrent in UFC allowing Ngannou and Fury to take place. Now that the fight has been confirmed, the buildup in the coming days will be even more exciting than it seems.

A brief contrast of the two contests

The fight between McGregor and Mayweather was undoubtedly an experience unlike any other. The bout garnered a lot of media coverage and interest overall, but we widely regarded it as a victory for Mayweather, who demonstrated his boxing skills and earned his 50th professional victory. A prospective bout between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury would be a highly anticipated contest between two powerfully built individuals.

Though the announcement of the bout has sent shockwaves in the boxing and MMA community, fans will be excited to see if it will gather the same amount of attention as the bout between McGregor and Mayweather did. Considering the stature of both Ngannou and ‘The Gypsy King’, the fight has a lot to serve. Amidst all the social media back and forth between the two, the hype for the clash is slowly and gradually being ignited.
