After his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor has used his official Twitter profile to clarify some questions from fans. When asked by a follower why his footwork wasn’t as clean as many expected during his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Irishman said he had broken his foot days before the challenge. This was a claim that many questioned, as there was no talk about him breaking his foot before he lost the fight. Now, Joe Rogan has revealed the true reason why ‘The Notorious’ actually lost the fight.

According to Joe Rogan, Conor McGregor’s real downfall versus Khabib Nurmagomedov was not a broken foot but the long-term consequences of his 2017 boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather. Speaking on JRE Fight Companion, the UFC commentator revealed how the Irishman’s training for Mayweather had a big impact on his MMA skills, ultimately leaving him unprepared for Nurmagomedov’s legendary grappling.

The podcaster said, “You get ready for a boxing match with one of the all-time greats. You gotta take six months where you’re not doing any takedowns, no leg kicks, no nothing. All you’re doing in boxing. You’re not gonna take any extra energy and train your f—– Jiu-Jitsu when you’re training for a Floyd Mayweather boxing.”

The Mayweather fight netted McGregor an unprecedented $130 million, but Joe Rogan believes it came at a great cost: his ability to compete at the highest level in MMA. By training entirely on boxing for months, McGregor missed the well-rounded skill set that propelled him to two-division UFC champion status. However, McGregor will never admit to the mistake. In fact, apart from his broken foot, ‘The Notorious’ even claimed that he was drinking way too much just days before the fight.

Conor McGregor admits to drinking alcohol days before facing Nurmagomedov

‘The Notorious’ is known for his controversial behavior and attitudes. And on the eve of UFC 246, the Irishman revealed one more. According to ‘The Notorious,’ he consumed alcohol days before his last date at Ultimate, in October 2018, against Khabib Nurmagomedov, where he was finally defeated. The revelation came when he had a conversation with ESPN, for whom Conor McGregor also detailed a poorly regulated practice routine for the duel against the former lightweight champion.

Conor McGregor admitted to drinking alcohol during the week of their fight. However, he seems to have learned his lesson, as he assured that he would be more mindful in his future fights. ‘The Notorious’ said, “A few months ago, three or four months ago (the last time I consumed alcohol). I was drinking in the week of the fight last time. There was this poison inside me. I don’t know why.”
