The exchange began as De La Hoya called on Alvarez to show him “respect” and even brought up Alvarez’s failed drug tests in 2018. This led to a heated exchange between the two with Alvarez firing back angrily in Spanish. While De La Hoya later dismissed the confrontation by stating, “Hey, it’s fight week, its game on. We’re not at church. This is a fight. Let’s go”

As such, McGregor took the opportunity to chime in as he took to social media and stated, “I’d love these two go at it Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Take off the gloves and fight, b*tch!”. The post drew a large response from the fans who shared their thoughts on the proposed matchup by ‘The Notorious’. Here’s a look at what the fans had to say.

Fans react to Conor McGregor trying to set up BKFC clash between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez

Fans pointed out that a matchup between De La Hoya and Alvarez would be massive for BKFC with the name recognition the two men have and will draw more eyes to the sport.

Others were seemingly disappointed with the lack of physicality in the altercation. Seems like they are fans old some old school one-on-one action!

Some pointed out that De La Hoya, who announced his retirement in 2009, is too old to compete against Alvarez.

Fans also claimed that if Conor McGregor managed to get the fight set up for BKFC it has the potential to be the “Fight of The Century” for the promotion.

But many also highlighted the massive age difference between the two boxers and pointed out that the matchup would have been more appealing if both were in their “primes.”

However, the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout, with an almost 31-year age difference between the two, was brought up by some fans as evidence that a bout between Alvarez and De La Hoya could be possible too.
